Dear MrsL I think it's rattled even the most 'seasoned' amongst us all the venom and hate being spouted.. Like you and many others here I just enjoy a quiet life and don't like seeing so many people upset for one reason or another. Hopefully we'll get through it in one piece whichever way it goes..
My youngest is now voting and takes his responsibility VERY seriously and drinks in info concerning elections so he is informed and can use his vote properly. I have had THE worst time trying to explain to him all the shenanigans going on at present as he sees everything in such black and white. I need to stay focused on being unbiased and not venting my feelings on things and just give him the facts but I'm struggling to find factual info anywhere without the added hysteria attached to whichever side is reporting stuff!0 -
I'm sure we will get through it D&DD and better than most. I'm not rattled or upset I just feel stalled if that makes any sense, I feel like I'm standing in fog and can't see at the moment how to make forward progress because I can't see where to go to. I like manoeuvre room in life and feel like I've been going round in circles and not getting anywhere and it's THAT I find odd and until we know there IS a forward direction I see no way out. I'm prepping as I always do, wouldn't not do it under any circumstances but the weariness I feel with the whole situation is new and we need to move forward for that to dissipate.
A mental shake has been administered and I am going to prep for Christmas as I want things here before the end of October as much as I can get them. I shall use it as a positive forward direction mechanism as unless things change drastically and we all become puritans again there WILL be Christmas and I WILL make it a good one.0 -
My problem is that if I buy Xmas stuff in we tend to eat it early.
A lot of the great nephews and nieces are going to be in the US for Xmas so I might stock up on dollars for their Xmas presents before the end of October though in case the pound drops any further.

I shall put what I get downstairs in one of the bedrooms and forget it's there so we'll not be inclined to dip into it before the holiday.0

I think I feel frustrated MrsL. I don't feel scared or anything of that sort, just frustrated and a bit fed up of the word democracy being used and abused on both sides.
I'm definatelty planning for my own life regardless of what might happen. It will all still turn, all still pass from pillar to post. If the very worst happens it isn't a patch on what I've already been through.
I have definitely scrubbed it out as a debacle and alterned my mind towards winter prepping like I do at this time of year.
A word on decongestants - as part of the decongesting mechanism they tighten blood vessels throughout the body. This increases the work the heart has to do and can raise blood pressure. It's just something worth keeping at the back of your mind should you feel dizzy or get palpatations with decongestants.
Also paracetamol. While I agree that the less a person takes in terms of medication the better, It's incredibly easy to pick up a general chest infection or something even worse. The pain of breathing with a chest infection is just awful and there will be breathlessness as well. May I gently suggest that it's sensible to have a stock of paracetamol in stores as getting to the shop with a chest infection is difficult and with the rules of buying packs being so tight it could be a proplem when you least can cope with it.
I'm just sharing my own lessons learned.0 -
Totally agree Fuddle I don't feel scared, life when I was growing up in the 1950s wasn't exactly a bed of roses so not being able to get prosecco and brie is hardly going to make me blink let alone go into a terminal decline. I wish we could see an end to all the juvenile silliness from those who are supposed to be in charge of the country, frankly wouldn't like to see a single one of them in charge of a pushbike if last nights little performance is anything to go by, put me in mind of the Chimpanzees Tea Parties that used to be held at Regents Park Zoo before it was decided to be too demeaning to chimpanzees to be made to act like people! I see what they mean now.
I'm not scared and I've gone beyond cross to a place where none of it makes the slightest bit of sense starting with the referendum, why hold it if you're not going to bide by the result? why bother? and why bother voting when MPs vote their own way anyway and to hell with principles and what the voter in the street wants it's all apparently down to their personal conscience and what they think which rather beggars the word democratic doesn't it?
I shall go on as I always have, making sure we're as ready for storms, even those in teacups and the odd hurricane that isn't going to happen??? and trying to keep our heads above water no matter what. I feel after the Brexit fiasco that the only one who IS going to look after the two of us is ME!!!0 -
Interesting you should say that about the chimpanzees' tea party, a columnist in the Telegraph has compared it to the Mad Hatter's Tea PartyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

That's about right Maryb!!
I mean myself feeling rattled really (which is quite weird) but I think it's partly due to to my current mobility issues and if you remember back when we had the riots I'm sure I posted about it on here the fire that made all the headlines was actually visible from our house!
Where I live is a bit um volatile to put it politely..and especially here at present there are a lot of issues happening, all of which have nothing to do with the political mess but social issues and we're walking a bit of a tightrope at present it feels like it just needs one spark and..I dread to think
We've talked about moving recently something I said I'd never do we love our home but it's getting to tipping point here. We have issues like this on a regular basis but never this bad and for this long, there's a lot of decent people here too but one by one they are leaving and I'm wondering if it's time to join them.0 -
I've been casting an occasional and very jaundiced eye over my area's parliamentary muppet and their activities and, suffice it to say, that I consider them to be a complete and utter disgrace and totally unfit to hold any kind of political office.
When they were first proposed as the candidate, I met someone briefly who said they used to work with them. Their verdict was that the candidate was a total ******g idiot. Didn't stop them being elected, tho!
I find myself wondering what will happen when we next get a chance at a general election - a seismic shift in political power or a mass refusal to vote, on the grounds that it doesn't achieve anything?
On the side of OTC medications, I keep ibuprofen and paracetamol, olbas oil, lavender essential oil, tiger balm, we.leda arnica lotion and vicks First Defence. I would highly recommend the latter, particularly for those whose life brings them into contact with lots of people, or who have children bringing in lots of novel bugs.
Other than that, lotsa handwashing and avoiding touching hands to the mucus membranes should help preserve health.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
