I think that's eminently sensible as a set of questions that have a direct yes or no answer to them and no shades of grey, I would welcome that if it was put to me on a ballot paper and would opt for 'leave with a clean break' not because I detest the EU but because I feel the uncertainty and the political turmoil and not honouring the first decision has irrevocably damaged the relationship between the people of the land and the duly elected Members of Parliament who were elected by those people to do the job of representing their views (either way leave or remain) but have CHOSEN not to and have tried to impose their own views instead. I certainly have lost trust in the way this country is governed and have no good opinion of any of the MPs in parliament at present, they are untrustworthy and not prepared to do the job that I voted for them to do.0

Few people I know have any time for most of them (there are some decent ones). I’ve only once been lucky enough to live in a constituency which elected an MP (or even a councillor) who represented my views, so being on the losing side in the referendum (surely that’s a swear word?) is business as usual, although this time I feel disenfranchised as not being one of the “people” whose will is worth respecting. If I ever vote again, it’ll only be in honour of the brave people who strove to spread the franchise to all.
On a much more “prepping” and happier note:
I’ve been stocking the freezer with apples cored and cut ready for use (a friend kindly gave me two big bags of “Discovery” which won’t keep unless frozen) and several pounds of lovely foraged blackberries.
No-one but me seems to gather blackberries around here nowadays - have others found this? Already the local council men are cutting back the hedges and the brambles, so it’s been a rescue mission really:cool:.
Discovery apples cook really well with blackberries (well, I had to test them...)“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

I was stuck on a slow train with two somewhat inebriated chaps discussing Boris Johnson & praising him as a man of the people, Churchillian, & going to get us out of the EU without fuss.
Frankly if I could had identified what they'd been drinking I might have had a swig. As it was, I was too tired to do more than struggle somewhat to ignore them while staying awake enough to get off at the right station.
Amidst all this "In" "Out" ('shake it all about' appears to be the parliamentary process) there is a border between Northern Ireland & Eire & that border is going to cause a great deal of fuss if we do get out as we're going to have to rip up the Good Friday Agreement & start All Over Again.
I used to do Customs work & I could bang my head against a wall when people say "it won't be an issue", or "it's just a bit more paperwork".
Not In Ireland, it isn't. Political dynamite instead. Sure, many folk will quietly be pragmatic but the disaffected, the grudge holders, the thirsters-for-publicity will now have a sizable geographic area along which to trigger seismic shocks. Not wanting to stir alarm & despondency but the shedding of blood has only recently calmed down - it needs several more generations to bed into habit & let the serious grudges die off.
As for drugs, guns, rabies & basic smuggling? The first two move with the money & the devil take the politics. Rabies is so far not a problem but for how much longer? Smuggling will become even more lucrative.
It's as well I was tired. That wasn't a conversation I was capable of having, and they were not using logic but emotion which makes for Really messy arguments. I cordially loathe civil wars as the civilian casualties pile up long before the armies (who are paid & trained for the job) get called in.0 -
Mrs L that apple thingy is an absolutely brilliant bit of kit it saves me so much time! Any news on the grandbaby front yet I saw your exciting news!
Primrose we have much the same issues it's feast or famine here with stuff. I planned a little better this year but planned to be back on my feet to preserve it all which is currently a bit hit and miss still so have had to resort to the 'sling it in the freezer' method..
I have been drying the apples I sliced in chopped pieces which
1 store better in a vac packed jar
2 can be used in porridge etc easier as well as pies and crumbles
Tomatoes, peppers and chillies I have made freezer salsa, I did mean to can this but can't lift the ruddy pot!
Onions are drying in the greenhouse for store and the runner beans are mainly used for the womens institute runner bean pickle it's lovely!! Very similar to Delias one.0 -
There's a huge topic on it here...
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5997993/will-brexit-happen
... I've not read it all by any means! I've merely read the last few posts then posted something a couple of times.
I voted the way I did partly out of respect for our older generation (without which we would either not be here or be in a completely different world!) as well as after watching and reading various old bits of news regarding the '75 erm 'entry' , what is there now is not anything like we were promised it seems. I can still recall grandfather saying they voted (back then) for a common market, not all the other things that have been added on.
Perhaps I made a mistake, perhaps not. I should point out though I get along well with people (generally) from all backgrounds, we have quite a 'mixed bag' around here anyway regarding the population and the vast majority of them are decent honest people.
Final word on this from me in this topic, I think the vast majority of my age group (yes really) actually voted to remain, at least going from what I see/read/hear.
Back on topic, no real brexy preps other than what I usually keep in that being a a few tins of various veg, a small tin or potatoes ( essential!) and a pack of instant soup-in-cup really. Occasionally a small tin of meat , one of the well known brands if i can get it for £1 or less. That reminds me I could not find any tinned mince the past day or two locally only "full price" stewed steak at £2.40 something
that's a bit too steep for me. A hunt further afield is needed and planned for Monday/Tuesday anyway. I say that as apparently its going to rain here Monday.
But I'd keep a few days 'stand by' food anyway simply as when I was a full time carer, I had to think along the lines of "If I was unwell and not able to go out to get anything, I must be able to provide food for him" , if that makes sense. Just seems a sensible habit where possible to ensure you have 'something in to eat' , does not have to be fresh stuff , tins are 100% fine for standby foods...0 -

Yep, I can recommend too. Mine is called Applemaster and was a present, I believe from Lakeland, although other, cheaper, suppliers may exist! Mine's in constant use at the moment; never known such a year for apples, and it's a good way to use the many, many fallers. I use ice-cube trays as well as zip lock bags for storage.0 -
Don't you just long fr the good old days when we voted, forgotaboutit, then got on with our lives.. we didn't spend 3 years endlessly arguing that we were right and the other side were wrong.0

It may of been before my time but I can see the logic and great value in that, when things were a bit more straightforward generally. Being raised by grandparents rather than parents may of influenced me a little bit however.
Partly on and partly off topic: I still have the original (pretty sure it is) ceiling mounted clothes horse in my kitchen.Yes some laugh at it however it can be invaluable both for temporary storage and also so much better than a 'horse' in the main living room area instead! The fact it is ceiling mounted means it is also not taking up much needed floor space either. I'd not be without it! Also means I've never had the pleasure (displeasure?) of owning a tumble dryer either!

Ohh, to have a ceiling high enough to accomodate a 'sheila maid' airer is an impossible dream in my tiny flat with its 8 ft 6 ceilings. Lucky you.
Never covet tumble driers, I know of a family who lost their home to a fire caused by one - the appliance wasn't even running but was plugged in and switched on at the mains. They were out at work. How many millions of homes replicate this situation?
Plus, the dryer lint is fibres which formely comprised your clothes, tumblers are awfully hard on fabric.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Wonderful things. Having ceilings over 8 foot high, and fond memories of the Maid in my grandmother's house, I bought one a few years ago when I got fed up trying to find place to stand regular airers.
Never a problem drying the washing now , and of course all the other benefits you mention.0
