Thanks for heads up about farmfoods. Luckily have one nearby so will pop there at lunchtime today.
I usually get a leaflet through door also, but haven't this week (will probably arrive today now). But you can always get the money off vouchers online:

Have just been, and if you don't mind Branston beans instead of Heinz, they are 12 x 415g for £4, so slightly cheaper (I actually prefer Branston, so win win).
Also, they have John West tuna at 2 X 4 tins for £6, which still works out at 75p a tin (though I note that the weight per tin is slightly higher with John West). Worth bearing in mind if you have a preference, or less storage space. Still a bargain to be had.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
OOh thanks for that Euronorris - I prefer Branston beans too! I have been stocking up on the 4 packs but starting to run low so that will be great. I'll have a look at the tuna too Mrs L.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

We've been too and have beans, spaghetti hoops, tuna, sunflower oil and Mr Mash which is to me the nicest of the instant mashes on the market. Also went to B&M and got a massive Heinz ketchup for £1,99 and a massive Daddies sauce for £1 so we'll be fed come the revolution but possibly explosive afterwards!
Also went to Currys and they had the freezer we wanted in stock and said we could take it today despite the online saying not available instore.....so we did and it's in the kitchen now plugged in and we have to wait 2 hours before we turn it on then can unload the small freezer into it and defrost him and empty the freezer on the fridge freezer too and give that a clean and repack, all is GOOD!0 -

From what I can remember when my new fridge/freezer arrived about 3 years ago they said 2-3 hours but it had been kept upright (they mentioned that latter part before I asked) so I half suspected it probably had not been upright. Needless to say I left it a good few hours then plugged it in and its been fine since.
It does have its good points, the last one had three deep (silly deep) freezer drawers, they were a bit too ridiculous depth wise but never mind. Could make a silly joke here that don't lean in too much in case you fall in! The new one has four drawers in the freezer area of a slightly more saner depth.
Only problem with it is it is much taller than I realised it would be (online purchase) as with the older one the micro used to live on top whereas it cannot with this as I'd not be able to reach it or if I did it would be just above eye-height, not a good idea for potential splatter accidents. Then again you're prbably not meant to use the top of the fridge as a microwave shelf.
^ Regarding the height, I did check the freezer/fridge 'depth' area's and they were within about an inch of the old model in themselves, its the extra space on it/blank area's that made it a good 10 or so inches taller than the old model.0 -
This one is a Logik and the booklet says 2 hours stand before switching it on and then 12 hours on before you load it up so that makes it 5.30 tomorrow morning.....sadly I'm going to disobey that one and load it up at breakfast time! It's a medium sized chest freezer 199 cubic litres and I can reach the bottom with my feet still on the floor. We had an enormous one when we lived in Hampshire and had a huge garden up to 3 allotments, a polytunnel and a greenhouse and I had to stand on a stool to reach inside that one to the bottom. This one will be easier to manage!
In prepping terms it means I can now take advantage of living in a fruit producing area and buy plums, apples, pears and process them for the freezer. I puree apples and freeze them in flat bags enough for a 4 portion crumble for the two of us and find that I can pack lots more in the freezer if I use that method. I shall also be able to freeze complete meals for us when I find meat bargains that let me make a great big stew and I have a big pack of 1 litre containers with lids that will stack nicely too so I can make soups from seasonal veg and always have an instant meal waiting ready to go.0 -
The delay before powerup is to let the liquid refrigerant settle really as the gas part of it will be (potentially) mixed with the liquid.
I don't actually *think* it would cause problems if it was switched on beforehand as long as it had had a bit of settle time (at a absolute min I'd say 15 to 30 min!) at worst it may cause the compressor slight temporary overheat issues and make what sound like (excuse me for the wording choice but I can't think of more suitable one for the noise) 'quiet farting' type noises but don't hold me to that., I'm merely basing this on my experiences of air-con units and they are broadly the same thing in a way.
As long as its had a good couple of hours in its correct position will be fine.
I think the delay between loading after switch on is simply so its got time to 'cool' all the compartments properly so that if you load too early it won't struggle to keep them cold enough.0 -
Thankfully HWK has a full science background having been a Senior Research Chemist for a large company on the cutting edge of development of products and on the newest scientific instruments and machinery in his field so he's used to setting things up, a freezer is no problem at all.0

If you can find the point at the back of the freezer where the copper pipework joins the steel, put something like silicon grease or even vaseline on it to keep the air away. This is a common point for the freezer to fail.
I had 'hamster baskets' recommended to me on MSE as a means to organise my chest freezer. They've proved themselves a good buy. https://www.hamsterbaskets.co.uk/Make £2025 in 2025
