I suppose what makes me angry too is that many who voted in the referendum are people who have given selflessly to their respective communities in one way or other, over the years with all kinds of charitable or community support, for no payment or reward and we have these highly paid MP.s strutting their stuff thinking they have a right to determine our fate.

If you hand a decision to the people, RESPECT IT We all face having to deal with decisions made by other people throughout our life which we don't always like but if you can't respect democracy, ask yourself what it would be like living under a dictatorship. I've spoken to people who have, and believe me, people wouldn't be marching in the streets protesting or posting on forums like this for fear that they would lose their job, the home the live in paid for by the state, or that they would be facing a knock on their door at midnight with a household member carted off to jail somewhere with no lawyer to defend them.

I watch tour elected policians on the BBC Parliamentary channel sometimes , and many of them, if not actually speaking on their feet, are sprawled on the benches half asleep, or playing and checking messages on their iPhones. I marvel that our TV screen is still intact and that no bricks have been thrown through it!

I really must watch my blood pressure and stop ranting!

:( Feathers being spat here, also.

In the unlikely event our sitting MP dares show their face in my deprived social housing block of flats, and should I be at home, there would be some harsh (not profane or obscene) words about their arrogance is setting their opinion over the expressed opinion of their electorate. Mine has had the brass neck to publicly campaign in the media against Brexit when their electorate have gone the opposite way.

Astonishing arrogance. If I have anything to do with it, they'll be signing up for Universal Credit sooner rather than later.

I don't want to play any more, either. For me, the ideal scenario would be

Weds 10 April the EU decide at their meeting that they've had enough of our politicians fannying around, and that they will kick us out of the EU on Friday 12 April.

Friday 12 April we leave the EU, Parliament is immediately disbanded and a General Election is called.

Some date later, a General Election returns a different set of Parliamentary Muppets (thanks to GQ for that label) and the new government gets straight down to discussions with the EU about our new relationship with them and how it's all going to work for the good of us and them.

In the meantime we will all carry on with our lives, doing whatever preppy stuff we feel necessary.

I could of course suggest all this to my MP but it would be in vain. After all, since when did governments ever listen to the voters?

That's interesting GQ, d'you feel the pro Brexit shift is because of your MP's stance, or a wider discontent at how things are unfolding?

I'm not 100% sure of the question? My MP's party is fairly evenly divided about Brexit, we constituents voted Leave by a small margin but the MP seems to think that they are entitled to campaign very publically against Brexit.

Call me naive, but my understanding of the referendum is that my vote counted the same as my MP's vote and that they shouldn't be using their position in parliament to try and get extra traction for their personal pov.

I bumped into someone socially just the once, when MP was a still prospective candidate. That person claimed to have worked in the same organisation as MP before they'd decided they were fit to enter politics. MP was described as a total (expletive beginning with f) idiot. How right that former colleague was!

MP will be enjoying the free and frank opinions of the electorate eventually dahn the polling station. They seem to think they're the Great I Am. I expect they'll not enjoy being the Great Has Been.

We've a local by-election coming up - should be interesting to watch. Of course I'll vote but these are local councillors.

Re food stocking-up and long life of ingredients - I have bought a jar of ghee (clarified butter) and it has a very long shelf life (till Jan 2021) and doesn't need refrigeration, unlike butter, so am thinking of getting a couple more of those. I'm going to get my hands on some more packets of gluten free pasta as that too has a long shelf life, longer than rice or lentils, so along with some GF pesto that could make a tasty addition to those tinned veg once my flour runs out.

Also I came across something called Huel, it's a powder packed with nutrients that can be used rather like a protein drink. Apparently not expensive and worth buying a bag or two. Wondered if anyone here has heard of it/used it?
