Sis has some & eats it occasionally but frankly when utterly desperate.
It's nutritionally absolutely sound but she finds the idea of eating it has lot a lot of appeal having tried it & she still has a near full kilo tub.
For when the snow is lashing down, you've 'flu & for some reason self flagellation seems sensible, she reckons it's the business.
For some reason, I've never taken her up on her kindly offer to let me try it.
I'd say have a (cheap) bag ready for when Really Unwanted Guests show up convinced you have loads stockpiled & they can get a hearty feed off you, but I am a Mean & Nasty Person that way.0 -

:rotfl: Well, I half suspected that might be the case! I have some pea protein powder and that is pretty unappetising!0 -
It takes a certain sort of stubborn committed-to-period-authenticity to eat pease porridge - and even then you do find yourself debating just how often they would have added a bit of bacon to add to it. At which point the devout vegetarians begin to look a bit nervous & much stronger flavoured herbs emerge!
Keep a tub of curry powder handy, in case?!0 -
To be honest, I'm almost beyond caring any more. I just wish there was a pill I could take which which would send me to sleep and let me wake up when it was all over.
We've become the laughing stock of the world and that grieves me. What grieves me even more is that all these issues should have been debated and argued through two years ago.
I doubt this country will favour any more referendums after this but there is a lesson to be learned. Do your homework first and lay all the issues on the table at the start of the process, not at the very end of the day.

I'm listening to the BBC's Brexitcast podcast from the very beginning so currently listening to events of 2017 .....and things that were being raised as issues then are still issues - so make of that what you will.
I had to defrost our small freezer yesterday and can't believe the amount of stuff I've got in that & the chest freezer.
Added to that the tinned stuff and I genuinely think I can manage not going shopping for at least 3 months.
Need to get out of the mindset of buying more......0 -

Black pepper?
Good strong over-rides the tastebuds stuff, especially if freshly ground.
Also, thinking back to one memorable "three tin surprise", tinned peach slices. Not at all period medieval but the fun of cooking is you don't have to confine yourself much often!0 -
DD1 when she's been on expeditions always aquires a bottle of tomato ketchup and a jar of marmite to take as hold luggage in her large rucksack. She reckons that anything anyone can put on her plate is made edible with the addition of one or the other! Guess what I've got in my Armageddon cupboard?0
-
Black pepper, yes! I have been using more of that (freshly ground, have got in more peppercorns for my stores!) and it really 'peps' up a dish (no pun intended!)0

I like this thing about democracy. The choice was simple: leave or stay?
So why didn’t the government phone up the President of EU the following day and say we’re leaving - bye ! That’s what we were asked to decide but we all know that while the question on the ballot paper was childishly simple that the real world is not that simple.
Now that I know what the real choices are I WANT MY SAY !!
Oh yes and all those Brexiteers who are keen on democracy when was the last time you voted for The House of Lords?0 -
Feathers being spat here, also.
In the unlikely event our sitting MP dares show their face in my deprived social housing block of flats, and should I be at home, there would be some harsh (not profane or obscene) words about their arrogance is setting their opinion over the expressed opinion of their electorate. Mine has had the brass neck to publicly campaign in the media against Brexit when their electorate have gone the opposite way.
Astonishing arrogance. If I have anything to do with it, they'll be signing up for Universal Credit sooner rather than later.
Reading the news story of the MP just out of prison you only need 10% of his/her voters to sign up to get rid!0
