It would be very strange if things could alter that much in only 30 months. A decade or more maybe - but 30 months is a drop in the ocean.0

We're living in strange times, so maybe not so strange that people might feel differentlyEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I very much doubt any more than literally a handful of people will have changed their minds in just 30 months. One or two/five or six maybe....
The rest are much more likely to be Remainers doing their best to argue against the democratic result of the vote.
Time was when it was a British "Value" to be a good loser.0 -
Surely there has been a lot that has come to light since the referendum, especially as it was never defined beforehand what flavour of Leave was being voted for. That is without taking into account the role of Cambridge Analytica manipulating democracy.0

I would say the vast vast majority of those who voted "leave" meant us to "leave". Simples......0

Well then there would be no harm or threat to the leavers to have another vote, would there?
And as for the politicians' fear that people would never trust them again, haven't they grasped that due to all the lies and misinformation leading up to the first vote, nobody will ever believe them again in any case?
Nobody has anything to lose by a clarifying vote, at least we could vote with our eyes wide open and our brains engaged.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Better tell those that compile dictionaries that apparently the word "leave" isn't clear enough and we need to invent another one that means exactly the same thing - but is a different word for it.
An example "Sam is going to leave the room" - that means "Sam is going to walk out of the room".0 -

I'm surprised you still think it's about 'winning' or 'losing'. Surely, at this point it should be about what's best for our country?
Although you seem insistent that we should leave, I haven't seen any posts from you on this thread to explain how the country will benefit from leaving.
As far as I can see, we are all going to end up as losers, hence the need for this disaster preparedness thread.Early retired - 18th December 2014

It never seems to bother anyone that clear breaches of electoral law have been found since the Referendum, and I for one don't count myself as a sore loser wanting to ensure that electoral law, on which our entire democracy rests, is upheld. The result isn't valid if the law was broken. Simples.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »An example "Sam is going to leave the room" - that means "Sam is going to walk out of the room".
Mmm, you might think so, but actually it doesn't. Sam could be a baby, so carried over someone's shoulder, in a sling, in a pushchair, in a carry cot, pushed in a pram. He, and I'm making another assumption here, that Sam is a male, but she could be Samantha, couldn't she, an adult who could be carried out on a stretcher, wheeled out in a wheelchair, carried out in her coffin. Sam could run, hop, slide, glide, jete, trot, because of course he could be a dog. Sam could be a parrot, so he (or she, obviously) could fly .... Lots of ways for Sam to leave, and sadly none of them clarified by the relatively simple word 'Leave.' There are a lot of other interpretations of your sentence, but I think most people will have the gist of it. Pragmatics teaches you that very, very few sentences are as simple as most people first think and your example certainly isn't. Your interpretation means that you have a lot of presuppositions about just what the word 'Leave' means, never mind the rest of the words in the sentence.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »I very much doubt any more than literally a handful of people will have changed their minds in just 30 months. Well that's the thing about those of us who are campaigning - we meet the and talk with people who have changed their minds as well as those that haven't. So here's an idea.
You don't think people have changed their minds. Fine. You've got absolutely nothing to lose, have you? If you're so certain it's what people still want, let's confirm that.
It's time to find out whether Theresa May's Deal, WTO Rules or Remaining is what people now want, 30 months after the advisory referendum.
Before we do something that will take a hell of a lot of undoing if the majority of the population actually wants to Remain.Better is good enough.0 -
I'm another one leaving this thread now. Poor cuddlymarm, your great idea re prepping has been taken over by on-going futile endlesss bickering about staying or going.0
