What is everyone's experience with haggling with NOW BB/Fibre come renewal, getting mixed bag with SKY unfortunately as of late

  • Hi, i went from sky to now b/b, hub arrived ok didnt not have a start date on hub box but had date in email.
Did chat online to now just to check the date, change over was ok.

IMO b/b is at times takes a few seconds longer to load a web page.

I had at the time a complaint with sky before the change over when i phoned sky up to check on this they some how following asking for my name brought up my now b/b account, i then gave them my old sky account number and the right details appeared

I do find that some times you go around in circles when trying to found the answer to something when looking on line, so i now only look for while and then contact someone at now b/b

I also have the 4.99 tv package which is ok, one problem and its seems many others have/had is the sound echos on some shows.

The other thing is and this was confirms by the agent i spoke too is the dates of the D/D seems to go out a day or to later, been 3 months since the change over.

I switched from Sky to NowTV about 4 months ago so I've no experience of haggling with them yet (Sky wouldn't come close until I'd signed up with NowTV) but there's a cracking deal on both Standard BB & Fibre at the moment from NowTV.

I am currently a NowTV (tv box) customer.

Would I get the new customer NowTV broadband deal? £20 ?
I just seen the news that virgin prices are rising (don't know why I am surprised. It's that time of year)

    I did.

My £70 cashback is still in the pipeline, though.
  • We were in the process of switching to Now Broadband and went via topcashback. Not only did they reject (check topcashback recent reviews on them and you may see this is not a one off) the claim but they managed to cancel our order but take £9.99. I have spend hours during the last week trying to contact them to put this right and have ended up going round in circles. I've been left mentally exhausted by the awfulness of the entire lack of customer service and general helpfulness. Please don't do it, it's not worth the hassle. Haggle with your existing supplier. We are staying with BT on the same good deal we got last year. Steer well clear. (in my opinion of course)

where did you think it went wrong browny? Using a cashback site?

I see MSE now has an offer of £50 voucher
  • I have signed up with Now Broadband as my Sky deal is ending in a few weeks. Sky wouldn't go any cheaper than £19 line rental and £10 ADSL.
Now has a summer offer on ADSL of £15 a month which includes line rental and Quidco are offering £65 cashback on top.

I could have got fibre but maybe next year. I get approx 16 Mbps download with Sky at the moment and I would expect similar from Now. The Now Hub 2 looks good as well but only 2 ethernet ports so I'll have to get a Gigabit switch attached to it.

Update - £65 cashback from Quidco paid today.

I'm puzzled because on Trustpilot, NOWTV and Plusnet have terrible reviews based upon bad customer service, bad broadband connections and non-payment of cashback. TalkTalk has 3 stars and is OK. So how come the forums on MSE are nicer to these companies?

All three companies use the same basic infrastructure (via BT Openreach) so it's unlikely that BB performance at a specific address would be significantly better/worse with any of those companies, or with Sky, EE or Vodafone, either.

Cashback I think is a problem generally for the industry - with lengthy qualifying delays built-in to the process that are not always clear. Although I do use Quidco for this purpose, I find their service way too vague, and I regard any cashback that eventually gets paid as being good fortune rather than entitlement.
