    TheGardener,

Your neighbour "a few doors away" smokes in his garden all day, every day and the smell is so strong it ruins your enjoyment of your garden?

I presume you hold the same opinion on people who smoke cigarettes and drive vehicles in your area, then? I suspect that's a lot more frequent, and more harmful.

Don't be so supercilious. I am a smoker and I didn't comment on the danger of the smell - just its strength - this stuff stinks - you clearly have no idea just how bad/strong this stuff smells - the prevailing breeze puts me upwind from a neighbour 2 doors away and the smell is overwhelming. The warm weather has meant that the neighbour is smoking the stuff in the garden most days/evenings and I don't think even they realise how strong the smell is.

  • TheGardener,

So, what you're telling me is that he smokes SO frequently and the smell is so potent (and he is some sort of Demigod able to control wind direction) that you can smell it ALL day?

You're a smoker as well! Honestly mate, you sound ridiculous. How much does this guy smoke he must be wrecked 24/7???

Having to live with the smell all day/every day, from a neighbour several doors away
If its all day, every day he could be growing. The smell of the plants can be stronger than when being smoked.

Surely you would have to be Intellectually challenged to arouse suspicion of a cannabis farm and smoke the goods nearby.

There's a pretty significant difference in aroma between a growing cannabis plant, and someone smoking a spliff.

    (so a friend tells me.)

I pass by strange smelling stuff all the time in London.
But how on earth would I know whether it's herbal cigarettes, vaping or cannabis?
I mean how would you know it's something illegal?

You're going to look pretty stupid if you report someone for smoking a splif and it turns out to be herbal.

How would an honest upstanding citizen know??

Yeah its like a combination of pine trees and basil or corriander. However having that smell invading your home and making your clothes smell is different.

None of this changes the fact that the neighbours are doing something illegal.

I suspect the people that are suggesting ventilation and air purification systems have never had the chance to live next to potheads. The smell is at least twice as potent as tobacco smoke.

If the OP is saying the truth that even his clothes are starting to catch the smell it something need dealing with. Imagine if his boss catches the smell some day and thinks that OP is using it, could lead to all sorts of trouble.

I was one of those suggesting an air purifier. I'm well aware of how it smells, but I am also aware that OP may have limited options - unless the neighbours are dealing, growing or involved in other criminal activity I suspect the police will have limited interest, and the landlord seems uninterested. An air purifier might make life more bearable for OP until such time as they are able either to move, or persuade anyone else to take any action.

It's a practical option, rather than an ideal one.
