Pot Smoking Neighbours

I think the police will actually care, because it's affecting you, making it anti-social.
The Police in London do generally walk on by when people are having a joint in the park (I live near Mile End Park which is a haze of cannabis smoke and police walk through all the time unbothered - why would they be?)
But in this situation I think they will do something. They obviously aren't going to wap the sirens on and break down the doors. But they might well send a community officer or a general patrol to have a word, and they are pretty good at mediating / being reasonable in these situations. Why wouldn't you at least give this a try? The worst that can happen is nothing.0 -
In fact if you are suspecting illegal activity, I think you have a duty to report it.
A bit of weed smoking can lead to mental health problems etc and i am not sure how so many people know how the police would react to this kind of issue. I suspect they do not think themselves that it is a crime worth pursuing. Lots of criminal activity is stopped purely because of initiative and reporting.0 -
If it smells that badly, and it's getting in your clothes etc...........are you sure they are just smoking it? I'd have thought that level of odour would be coming from a fair sized 'grow'. Unless you are the sensitive type.
On the other hand they could have an incontinent cat and like burning sugar; that could also account for the strong smell :-)0 -

You're probably right that the anti-social aspect of it might make them more likely to act, but OP really needs to confront the neighbours first.
"Hi guys, it's not for me to judge how you spend your time, but I really do not like the smell of your cannabis entering my house. I don't want to fall out over this, so if you could just smoke [at location that would bother me a lot less] that would be fine. I trust you'll accommodate my reasonable request, and I won't need to involve your landlord or the police""Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
It's more carcinogenic than tobacco smoke, IIRC.
I'd speak to them about not letting the smoke spread to your flat.
Getting the overstretched police force to deal with it is a bit like renting a combine harvester to trim your window box. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Wow, some people in this thread need to live a little, I would even say chill out which is what the flat owners are probably doing :rotfl: Calling the Police is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard, why not just have a polite chat and ask them if they would mind smoking it outside the property?0

Wow you're so chilled man, how big and clever are you!0 -
I have to sympathise with the OP on the smell - it isn't called 'skunk' for nothing. Its an appalling thick, heavy, sickly smell that clings to clothing and soft furnishings in a way Febreeze just can't shift.
Those with experience of the smell will know its a real blight and if the OP had asked about how to deal with the smell coming from an abattoir or a waste disposal site (it really can be that overwhelmingly strong) that might have got a more helpful response. Having to live with the smell all day/every day, from a neighbour several doors away -who smokes it in their garden has ruined my enjoyment of my own garden so far this summer.0 -
TheGardener,
Your neighbour "a few doors away" smokes in his garden all day, every day and the smell is so strong it ruins your enjoyment of your garden?
I presume you hold the same opinion on people who smoke cigarettes and drive vehicles in your area, then? I suspect that's a lot more frequent, and more harmful.
Have a word with yourself...0 -
Its London. Probably smells nicer and far less harmful than the inner city air.
Move to the countryside.0
