This is reality in a lot of day to day transactions though. Lying and minpulating. Lynx sell a body spray that has on it 'all day fresh', ive never actually tried the product (because i dont believe it) and whilst i havent tried it i suspect the claim is at least a little bit exagerated. I cant imagine it keeps a skip diver in the new delhi slums fresh all day. Me sat at my desk all day, maybe. But then my idea of fresh isnt wearing lynx body spray.
At the end of it though this is their idea of running a business, yes its a terrible idea and yes its a somewhat scummy thing to do but its only ever going to stop when people choose to stop being a victim of it. Those who choose to not be a victim arent. Those who choose to be a victim are. And that choice comes down to the individuals free will. I have a quite clearly defined (to me) red line when dealing with people/businesses. If they do something to upset me and dont try and make it any better i dont want anything to do with them they cna have their points for that win but ill take the win from the battle (ie keeping my integrity). IM someone who wont shop at pc world, becuase i dont like what they do, nothing they can do will change that, short of putting right everything i think theyve done wrong (probably close to impossible for them) as such a direct result of their actions means i and im presuming you will never shop there. Its got to trickle down, most people on this forum will tell you not to shop there, it does kind of scream in your face. Im not about forcing someone to stop doing something im about encouraging people to take responsibility for not making a mistake. If we lived in your world we wouldnt have fire because stupid people get burnt.
I do think i understand where youre coming from to a degree, i just think its a bit tight picking on pc world when the likes of the roman catholic church, the government and a few other bastions of human integrity completely and utterly take the proverbial when it comes to money and lies.
I think this is a very smart way of looking at it. It is exactly the same as when a car dealership is economical with the truth. Perhaps that car has 1 key instead of 2, despite the fact they promised 2. So you refuse to deal with them again, that's the solution.
PC world, like kwik fit, halfords, and many many places are shifty, so lots of people avoid them. Victims of their sales propaganda probably know people who refuse to shop at these kinds of places too.0 -
The main problem for most people is that they like to see before they buy. This is a problem with online purchases.
People won't stop using curry's because, they have little, or no, high street competition and there will always be a majority who don't know what they are doing.
Do, I think their tactics are right, no I don't, but, that's not going to change anything anymore than the arguments on here.
I buy from Currys when I want something in a hurry. I've never paid the ticket price on anything that's cheaper online. A chat with the manager usually sorts that.
Would I pay for the extras?................Of course not, but many do, unfortunately....All I can do, is try to protect family/friends from making the same mistake.0 -
^^ In the same vein, i am disgusted by people who rob old grannies ..
Now that doesnt mean my granny has to have been robbed for me to be disgusted at this does it ?
I am allowed to be outraged that there is someone out there who is willing to rob a granny
Understand ?
Your bemusement bemuses me
You must spend so much of your life outraged and disgusted if your span runs from people robbing OAPs to PC World upselling.....0 -
I posted it originally in Firefox - just looked in Chrome and it's showing fine there too.
It may be your settings???
Thanks ...
Turns out it was the "Ghostery" (privacy ad blocker) chrome add in which was causing this
With it running no sign of that 'note' picture or link visible anywhere on this thread0 -

What's wrong with it? it's just an informative note."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

When did anyone ever expect the truth from a salesman? I was taught to do my research before entering a store such as PC World, particularly for larger purchases.0

Don't go into Dixons much but almost every time there is some spiv salesman trying to flog an £80 HDMI cable to some old grandad who doesn't know any better. Disgusting company^^ In the same vein, i am disgusted by people who rob old grannies ..

I do wish you young things would stop using grannies and granddads as examples of people who are vulnerable and targets for being duped. Me and a lot of my friends are grannies and granddads and we are often more knowledgeable about computers than many younger people. Also a lot more sceptical about deals than many younger people.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -

Informing the customer to 'pop into the store to buy insurance' when most (?) household policies already include it.
Telling the customer that "there's no internet security" whereas McCrapee is already preinstalled and telling them in CAPITAL LETTERS to DON'T USE FREE SECURITY, when most (?) on here suggest that it's perfectly adequate.
Informative??? Hardly!!!0 -
Hmmm

Its called "upselling". A lot of low margin retailers do it - its hardly the first time you've seen it surely?
And it wasnt an instruction to "pop in to the store to buy insurance" it was caveated by "if you would like to cover it" - so simply a matter of checking your insurance first, then deciding if you need additional cover bought. Hardly a crime?
And as you've admitted yourself, not all home insurance policies will cover loss or damage of a specific expensive electronic item away from the home.
"Adequate" does not mean 100% secure. And again its simple upselling.
Is this really the worst thing that some people on here see in life that pitching for a bit of extra business disgusts and outrages them? Because it doesnt make my top 100.
Either that or the terms have very much become over used and watered down....0
