    Hello all.
Sorry you're having a bit of a time of it Aesop!

I have a dilemma and could use practical advice. The husband has been looking for a new job. He's been offered a great one who will have him there as soon as he can get away from his current employers (though he may have to give 4 wks notice, we'll see).
The new job is brilliant. We'll be £241 better off a month plus it's much nearer to drive to so savings on petrol costs.

My problem is that he's on weekly pay and will be moving to monthly (20th of the month). We're pretty much week to week and currently have no savings/credit available (I just paid off and closed a credit card, the other card is nearly maxed and next on our to pay off list). An overdraft would sound the most sensible I suppose but I don't think our BS will offer us one. Help!

Any advice to help with the transition as his wage pays food and bills in real time pretty much (I'm self employed and my earnings come in later to pay the rent etc).

It's an amazing opportunity for him, both experience, enjoyment and money-wise and will really help us become debt free quicker.

    Hi

Congratulations to DH on new job. I need one of those too.

Go into your local branch after making an appointment to meet with the manager. Explain the situation to them. Explain you want a temporary overdraft to tide during the transition. How quickly could you pay it off? Have facts and figures ready and explain you don't want a loan or to put on credit card. A short term overdraft is what you need.

Evening all. So sorry for my long absence. I've still been hard at money-making, especially the last week with the World Cup starting - mainly during work hours which is an added bonus, but I've also spent a lot of time thinking hard about me, my marriage, my family and spent a lot more time offline than I usually do on an evening, focusing on those closest to me.

I don't want sympathy, but I don't feel I've had it particularly easy. My wife and I have been together just over 15 years now and through that we've supported each other through so much, parents' divorce, a parent diagnosed with cancer, a parent moving to other end of country, a parent passing away, close uncles/grandparents passing away, post-natal depression, severe anxiety, depression, lack of support from close family who are still around. For our ages, I think we've been through a considerable amount of rough times. Sometimes I think from the outside people see 2 relatively young (I still feel young!) people, with 2 happy smiley children (not all the time!), in a nice house, both with full time jobs, a nice car..what on Earth have they got to be miserable about. Sometimes I often look at myself in the mirror and say exactly that. Look at what you've got, how can you possibly be unhappy?

I hate confrontation and would rather bottle things up, but I think I've bottled up so much frustration and anger over the years that it all finally boiled over a few weeks ago and being honest I got a lot off my chest. I feel better for it now - I'm not kidding myself, the issues haven't gone away, but they're out in the open more and I'm dealing with them better as a result.

I wish you all the best of luck with your money making, keep up the good work. You are all so inspirational, and I could not be more thankful for finding this forum, and being part of this amazing community. I'll be back - but for now, just know I'm in a better place :)

    Nice to see you Mike!!

Sounds like you and your wife have had more than your fair share of problems over the years. Cant have been easy. No-one knows the truth about others relationships, only seeing the snippets that are shown to the real world. Only you and your wife can work through your problems and hopefully come out stronger the other side. I wish you good luck Xx

  • Thanks so much for posting again, Mike:T. We've been very concerned about you and, as you said, we are a community on here. I for one always really miss one of 'our own' when they disappear from our lives.

I'm sure you'll sort things out given time and space. In the meantime, sending hugs to you and your family:kisses3:

Thank you! I'm so pleased for him, not just because of the extra pennies but because he's worked so hard for it. I'm going to see the building society on Monday to sort an appointment. I need £400 as one week we have nothing coming in. The following week he'll be paid for a part-month and we'll be £378 down from usual until the next month. After that we'll be all good as far as income moving forward including extra to chip away any overdraft etc.

If no overdraft..... That's my big worrying problem.

You're always so supportive to everyone else on this thread, shariann:A. I know you've been experiencing bad times of your own so your thinking of others and encouraging them through their difficulties is really lovely to see:T. I hope things are going better for you too now:beer:

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow with your bank Nicki Sue. I dont see why they wouldnt help you out.

Hope everyone has had a nice day and enjoyed the sunshine. :D

I decided to check my consumer pulse account last week and discovered I could use the points for B & Q. Great for a few bits for the garden and my allotment. Cashed out £30 and the giftcards arrived Friday. Really pleased with that. :T

£6.30 tips from yesterday as well.

Received £30 from a telephone focus group/interview:). Takes my total for June to £345.12:j. I'm declaring at that amount as there's nothing else in the pipeline for the rest of the month:(.

I'd just like to say that I'm bowing out of the challenge. My focus has been mainly on selling things and now I have barely a couple of bootfuls of saleable items left I'll be taking them to the animal rescue's new charity shop. I will keep on doing surveys when I get the time but what I earn from them is pitiful:(. Now that Yellow pages has ceased publication that's another income source closed off:(

I've also just accepted a job as fundraiser for the local animal rescue centre that I volunteer at. I was asked to do it several times but I didn't want to commit so much of my time. I've decided now to go for it and have just phoned the organiser to accept. I'm wondering what I've let myself in for:eek:. It's not a paid job as such although travel expenses and office supplies and phone calls can be reclaimed if necessary. It doesn't have 'set' hours but I expect it will be taking most of my time. If a job's worth doing and all that, eh?

It's been such fun being part of the thread for all this time and I've made lots of much needed money towards paying off my debts:j. A massive thanks to everyone I've got to know along the way, and especially to Aesop who made most of it possible::A:T:beer:

I expect I'll still pop in from time to time to see how you're all doing. Meanwhile, I wish you all the very best of success:beer:
