At the begining of January I filled in an FLA complaint form to try and reclaim PPI from Black Horse. On the 9th Jan I recieved an email from FLA saying thanks for the complaint and they were looking into it and stated that if I hadn't heard anything within 3 weeks to contact them on the number provided.
Unfortunately the number provided is an answer machine. I have left countless messages and sent emails but have never recieved a return call.
Now 8 weeks on I found another phone number on their web site and called them and managed to speak to a human being BUT the human being just took the same details as the answering machine and said she would email her supervisor immediately and as you can imagine, I'm not planning on holding my breath.
This FLA, as far as i'm concerned is an absolute sham. There should be a governing body over them.

What am I supposed to do now?

Has anyone got any ideas cos i'm all out of them?

    From a rather disruntled Sarah

    Thanks

    Hi Sarah

Sorry to hear of your issues here.

Have you tried writing to them at all?
Post by recorded delivery so you know its reached them and leave them your tel number for them to contact you directly, tell them you only want an update and you were told to contact them if you heard nothing within 3 weeks and that time has well gone by.

Its only a suggestion but I can understand this must be very frustrating for you.
I know others on here have been through the FLA, hopefully they will post up with some suggestions for you.

Meanwhile, I do hope you hear soon with a good outcome, good luck.;)

Looking through this forum, it looks like, in the last 2 years, no-one has successfully managed to get a refund for PPI from a company not regulated by the FOS - is that correct ?

I'm in a similar situation to most on here - i.e. large (£40K) secured loan with First National (now GE Money) via a broker. All paid off a few years ago now when I remortgaged, but it had extortionate PPI lumped-in at the beginning (despite apparantly lasting for 5 years of cover), would not have been suitable for me as I was self employed (the broker specialised in cases such as mine as they were suggested by the Federation of Small Businesses) but I was told that the loan would only be approved if I included PPI. Both the broker and GE say they were not regulated by the FOS, suggesting the FLA instead, and blame each other. As we all know, the FLA has no teeth, and certainly no power to force them to pay, so is useless.

Can anyone convince me that it's worth still fighting or is this a completely lost cause ? Maybe it's something that Martin could take-up/look into as these non-FOS PPI cases seem to be affecting a lot of people out there and none of us seem to be geting anywhere.

    Thanks

    Hi
dont let them fool you . They have successfully in many cases managed to completely throw people off the scent.
It really makes no difference when you took out the ppi. Just dont use the FOS to claim it back. There is a free service to claim PPIn no matter when it was taken out. so do not pay for a claims service but do not do not allow the lenders to get away with it either
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.

    Hi, I am just in the middle of using template number 2 regarding mis-sold PPI on car finance with British Credit Trust back in 2002. They stated that the sale took place prior to the date when FSA began regulating and that it was also outside the time span for the FOS. They didn't mention that they were members of FLA but I have looked again at my original documents and its there in black and white. This was the first and only letter I have received from the above company with FINAL RESPONSE at the heading. They included in the letter that I should approach the supplying dealership? They provided me with the car...not the finance! Their letter ended with;
We will not be upholding your complaint.
Can someone please tell me if this is the standard type letter I should expect, in the vain hope that I will not persue it further or do I need to approach the dealership? I would be grateful of any advice/
    Many thanks x

    Hi there hun

They state about you should approach their dealership, I would write to the dealership and send them a copy of the letter you received from that first company and ask them to investigate your complaint for you, again though its 8 weeks they have.

The problem is if they have issued the final response they can oblige not to write back, but as they are not covered in order to take this to the FOS, I am aware they do not disclose details of the FLA either, but it may also be worth contacting the FLA to see if they have them registered with them, both British Credit Trust and their dealership.

Hopefully someone will post up with more suggestions here for you, good luck.;)

Hi, while re typing a letter to the dealership Dutton - Forshaw, I have checked their website and although it doesn't mention FLA, it does mention FSA. I have checked on the Financial Services Authority website and they are currently memebers. Will this help in any way?
I have now put together a letter, including copies of correspondence between myself and British Credit Trust and will be posting them first thing on Monday...by recorded delivery, of course!
    Fingers crossed :rolleyes2

    Hi hun
The company should have had to have been members of the FSA when you had taken this out, or if you have any paperwork with GISC on you may be okay to go through to the Financial ombudsman service if not successful, however, it may be a good idea to ring the FOS and ask them, they will check to see if both companies were covered at that time, (even though they may be now) but would have to have been when you had taken this out, they should confirm if they were or not.

Do you have a company number on any of your paperwork, I will try to check them out for you if I can.;)

  • have just started a dispute with volkswagon finance, as i have realised they missold me PPI as part of a car loan.. I am self employed, which it says on the document i signed, but someone, the salesman i think.. ticked the PPI box.. not me.. so far they are refusing to repay me and saying I agreed to it as i signed the form.. my point is that as I'm self employed it is useless to me, and should never have been sold to me.. I'm just looking for support on this.. have tried the ombudsman, but back in 2004 when i took the loan out, V.F weren't regulated so they can't help me.. have emailed the FLA. is there anything else i can do?? i'm on a low income, so need this money i have unthinkingly paid.. back!!
