I have however, said 'this is why I'm in X department and not you!' (X department does come with a higher wage, like, shock horror, managers vs apprentices) when someone comes to me with something theyve messed up. Its always with good humour, and not once has someone had a whiny fit to HR about it...
I don't get the impression that the situation described in this thread is good humoured so your comparison is irrelevant
Could be you're one of the bullies and find it hard to accept that your behaviour is sometimes unacceptable and it's just 'banter'Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

I don't think you'd know what good humour was if it poked you in the face.
The manager is factual and most likely was trying to reassure the apprentice that asking for help is not only absolutely fine but expected of an apprentice. They are there to learn whilst working.
if she was upset by it, and thinks she is being bullied, then maybe she's not cut out for any work environment.0 -

There's plenty of idiot managers around, and it appears you're probably in their ranks, probably in retail or some other low-level activity. I understand why you might not always recognise the impact of your attitude on others, especially when you get a promotion to the glorious heights of 'veg section supervisor'
Yeah, the fact that a comment upset someone means they should never work again. That's sensible.
I think a lot of people on this forum don't like people standing up for themselves because they never stood up for themselvesHope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Bullying is forcing someone to do something. Ie give me your lunch money or i will punch you. Or forcing someones head down a toilet.
You could argue belittling more than bullying. But then the manager hasnt said the apprentice is unworthy or unimportant, they just made out that they are paid more because they are good at doing what was asked.
You wouldnt call it bullying or belittling if Lionel Messi said he was a better footballer than ryan sessengnon because he was paid more would you?0 -

It almost sounds like your trying to bully and belittle someone there. Get off that damn high horse before you hurt yourself.0 -

So you're on here harping about belittling and bullying, yet you see fit to belittle everyone who works in retail?
I don't, but I have before (and I even worked in fast food during uni! The shame eh??)
but enjoy your hypocrisy

I've no idea who Ryan Sessegnon is, but I do know that Lionel Messi isn't a football manager.
Ergo, your analogy is absolutely rubbishHope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

If you read my comment properly you would have seen I was talking about 'idiot managers', so lets not create straw man arguments.
Guess that university education took place a long time ago....Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

Your lack of understanding doesnt invalidate my analogy. Also, your propensity for hostility and name calling suggest you need to look closer to home to find those bullies.0 -

Keeping in mind the apprentice is earning £3.70 a hour she found this very upsetting.
Would you class this as belittling, bullying?
As a one off, no.
As the latest in a series of comments made over a lengthy period of time about how said manager was cleverer, more highly paid, and generally better than the (for example) slow, stupid, lowly paid apprentice...maybe yes.0
