If you stay in a hotel you pay for the nights occupied and totally clear the room of all your possessions when you leave. So if you go away and then return you do not pay for the absent days.

If you are a lodger you pay for the room for so long as it is reserved for you. That is while is contains your possessions and while you have not given appropriate notice to leave regardless of if you sleep there or not.

So which applies to you? A clue - your mum is not running a hotel.

But as this is supposed to be a money saving site I'd add, if you can find a better deal elsewhere feel free to move.

Personally I would not expect to be paid. It depends on your circumstances though. I often give my Son £10 towards a meal as he often eats out with friends. I only charge a nominal rent.
That's very generous :) If you ever want any more children I'm available for adoption

<Yawning> Really wonder what this site is coming to occasionally. Love it but posting MMD's.., is there a need for them?
  • If you were our 'child' it would have been negotiated before you went away for three months unless you were otherwise detained at Her Majesty's pleasure. Otherwise offer a portion of what you would have paid anyway as I'm sure she's sorted out the stinking washing and made the bed and cleaned etc. I know I would.

Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as contributions are often emailed in or suggested in person.
Am I the only one to read that as "made up in the office" :money:

Well... I think Luke's just had a bit of an argument with his mum.

I think he's hoping he'll be able to say...
"Look mum, 47 random anonymous people on the interwebnet say I don't have to pay you any rent, innit."

I think Luke's next question could be...
"My mum is good at making beds and washing clothes, so I think I she should to do that kind of stuff. But she says I should make my own bed and wash my own clothes. Should I do it?"

Careful, they are the highlight of a lot of peoples' week, you know. Some people only ever post to defend the honour of the MMDs.

Why do we have to have MMD's on this board?

The OP never gives that much information in the beginning and never returns to update or answer any questions,if its going to turn into a debate put it on that thread otherwise leave the housing and rental threads for those who genuinely need advice or guidance.

    Please......

The majority of people seem to think these are fake for this reason, but I do remember once coming across one ages back where the OP actually owed up and joined in the discussion to ask & answer more questions.

Very rare but at least it's possible.
