£35.79, including a mad scramble at the yellow stickers for the store cupboard... bought a lot of things I wasn't planning on but can live in the cupboard.
Now up to £97.44 but, bizarrely, might be stocked up for the next two weeks.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

Big shop done... starting to notice it is a bit more of a challenge now my original stock has depleted considerably!
That's what's at the back of my mind...what happens when there's a lot less stuff available in the freezer and cupboards. There's still plenty there for now though and the garden is doing it's bit. I have baby courgettes growing, also baby cucumbers and I put another 1.5 pounds of rhubarb in the freezer on Friday.
The thing I'm enjoying the most at the moment is being able to go outside and pick spinach and salad leaves when I want themThe "newly planted this year" raspberry canes seem to have taken well. Fingers crossed that I get enough for some home made raspberry jam next year. The first tiny tomatoes are starting to appear too.

Evening all, a few spends to add to the total, and unfortunately my total and the banks don't tally so going to have to wait until the bank catched up with itself and shows the transactions for me to see what I've missed.
Bank is saying I have £58.58 left, which isn't much considering we've got 13 days left. The fridge is still quite full and should last until at least Thursday, then I've got £4 off a £20 spend at Mr S, so will write a list and see if I can keep it to £20.
Although I really liked the fruit and veg box, the next one doesn't seem as good a value so will miss it this week I think, as we still have quite a bit of fruit to get through. I'm going to try and fit in some baking this week to use up some odd bits and reduce the amount I need to spend on snacks. I've got oats, golden syrup etc so will try and make flapjack. I've also got some frozen pumpkin puree so will make a batch of pumpkin cupcakes.
Has anyone got a good flapjack recipe (that includes raisins)?Grocery Challenge 2024

This is very much on my mind and partly why my freezer is going down so slowly, I could have spend practically nothing this month but I'm not happy about using up more expensive stuff on say just on a weekday evening when scrambled eggs on toast would have done and then finding myself needing whatever I've used and having to buy an expensive replacement! I guess it's a question of finding a balance between what it's sensible to have in and what is money needlessly tied up in stored food. I think I'm doing quite well in using what I've got up in a frugal way though, so I'm getting there hopefully0 -

This is one I use; it's a basic recipe but you can add in whatever "extras" you want (eg raisins, currants, sultanas, glace cherries, chopped dried apricots or cranberries, nuts, seeds, dessicated coconut etc)
500g porridge oats
175g sugar
210g butter or margarine
6 tblsp golden syrup
Melt the butter (or marg) in a pan with the golden syrup.
Add all other ingredients and mix well.
Turn out into a greased/lined tin
Bake at 200C for 15 mins.
Allow to cool fully and cut into squares/fingersBe kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
Have clocked up 3 NSDs in a row. :j
I was thinking of nipping out for fresh milk as we're running low but have decided to use a carton of LL instead, so that will keep me out of the shops for another couple of days.
Mr Postie has brought the latest batch of Sainsbugs MOCs but I probably won't use them as each one requires a minimum £30 spend. I've already stocked up on dry and tinned goods and have a fit-to-burst freezer so there's nothing I really need. No point in spending for spending's sake.:):)

Spend of £13.99 in c00p. Lots of salad, eggs and they had lovely Linda veggie burgers on 2 for £3 and they are on the list for the Thursday big shop. They also had the sausages in the offer if anyone is interested. I'm aiming not to shop now until Thursday. Xx0

Thank you I'll give it a go tomorrow whilst I've got the oven on!
Planning on doing a top up shop tomorrow using a MOC for Mr S, hopefully it'll see me through until early next week.Grocery Challenge 2024
