Hi All,

We recently moved into a terraced house at the end of a close and soon after moving in we quickly realised there was a parking problem in the close; contrary to what we were told and what we saw during views.

We decided to drop the kerb and create a driveway which was met with a lot of animosity from two particular neighbours that live on the opposite side. They claim we took away their parking space (directly in front of our property) which was the hammerhead/turning space of the close, despite the close having six bays available (on first come, first serve).

These neighbours were never welcoming even after we tried to be friendly to them. We would greet them when we saw them but they would never respond/walk passed us like we never existed, to this day we don!!!8217;t understand why. So we never informed that we were lowering our kerb - other neighbours we talk to were informed of our intentions.

Now one of the two neighbours has started to park in the middle of the close even when the bays are free and this restricts us from reversing out of the drive freely and safely. They have left what they deem as a suitable gap for our car (Hatchback) but family members with much larger vehicles can!!!8217;t fit.

The Police seem uninterested as they say its a council issue and the highways have also stated its a police matter. How would you go about dealing with this considering there is no communication with the neighbour in question.

What do the police do when you inform them someone has parked a car in the middle of the road?

It is actually more likely to be a parking warden job. They are the people who issue the tickets.

Reverse ONTO your drive, it is then a LOT easier to exit.

Did they object to the notices I presume the council put up? My mum's neighbour opposite did and my mum ended up with a slightly smaller dropped kerb (was already a double one which got extended onto the now paved front garden.

If you parked on the dropped kerb instead of the drive, would that stop them? I can't visualise what you're saying so putting all suggestions out there.

buy a really cheap car, tax and insure it, then park it outside their house claiming it's your spot :)
An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......

I would expect the police to have a word with the offered to move the car.. In this case they said they can see the person is being a nuisance but we would have to sort it out ourselves as there is no marking on the road for them to ticket the individual.

The problem is there are not wardens in our area.

The problem with this is that, in order to get my car in reverse, I would have to enter the close from the main road in reverse all the way down (around 50 meters) to the end where our property is (Unless two bays are free either side of the close to act as a turning circle.. rare). The other problem with this is that the car parks in front of our living room window. If I reverse in, it reduces the light in the living room as the rear is higher than the front.

    I have uploaded an image

To drop a kerb, you would not need to consult with neighbours. We did it out of courtesy, we talked to the immediate neighbours on our left and right and one other that lives further right. Two neighbours have never talked to us even after attempts to introduce ourselves and be friendly, they sort of blanked us.. and I main in a rude way, so we too never approached them.

If I parked on the Kerb, I would be a nuisance to people trying to turn in the close. I can also see them still park behind our car stating we can drive into our drive and reverse out again, but with a fence on the right, we can't swing out the drive as by the time we clear the fence we are so close to the car behind.

They don't have any land outside their property as they live in the corner of the close. I was however thinking of getting transit van one of these fine days and try to park it on my drive. With the gap they leave impossible to get a van through, I would leave it behind their car. When they do intend to move out they would have to knock on our door and then I will advise them of their ways.
