I feel your pain HSL2 - I am desperate to get my ex off the mortgage here so I can take the house on my own and so that he has no cause to turn up. Not that he has done since the police moved him on... It's going to take everything that I've got to do it, but I am pretty determined to. It's my house, I made it what it is, with my money, and it mine and my kids (and my cats) home. I can afford it so the only thing standing in my way is getting someone to ok the mortgage on my own. Fingers crossed...

Minor disaster last night. We have an old coal shed as part of the house, which is now just an outside cupboard that I never used. Ex asked me for something from there so I went to get it, opened the door for maybe the first time in a year and saw the ceiling completely caved in. This cupboard is directly under our bath. So, I went upstairs and took the bath panel off, and found a soaking wet, rotting floor directly underneath, with a view of the downstairs shed through a hole almost a foot in diameter. How the bath is still actually in the bathroom is beyond me. As is the fact that the damage is solely limited to 2 places where I haven't seen a thing, i.e. behind the bath panel and in the old coal shed. I could actually cry. We've all had a shower at my mam's today and I'm really hoping I can get it fixed for tomorrow...

OK day, but busy - still with exams. Last night's little disaster lost me a good 4 hours or so of marking time, so I had to take my laptop with me to my mam's house and work there as well as catching up with her, and using her shower. The kids saw their dad, went for lunch with him and fought the whole time apparently... Saw my dad for a bit as well, which was nice. Need to do another 3 hours of marking tonight, as well as prepping a packed lunch for ds who is on a school trip tomorrow. Really hoping to be in bed and asleep by half past ten because I'm pretty run down and not sleeping so well at the moment...
  • Oh no, sorry to hear about the bath. Hope it's quickly and cheaply fixed.

CCL - That sounds expensive. But, think positively, just as well you noticed when you did otherwise it could have been a lot worse.

Hope you slept better last night.

    Evening all
Just a quick one, because guess what - I'm really busy with marking. I can't see where the time is going - I'm back off to London again tomorrow for 4 days for the next paper. I am making progress though. Finished 2, and over 50% on both the other 2. Still it's going to be non stop until the end of June though.
Good news with the bath saga. The man that did our fence came to look at it yesterday and told me he could fix it all for £120. Which I have accepted. Yes, even more debt and I have no savings but I could hardly go without a bath or shower in the house could I? And with a £200 excess on the insurance it wasn't worth going that route. He's done it all today - I've gotten home from work with new plumbing on the bath, new flooring and a new ceiling in my outside cupboard. Good spends there I think.
Now I want to get on and get past the 75% mark on these two ongoing papers. Fingers crossed. I still need to pack for London, and get the house ready for the catsitter so maybe not tonight, but I need to keep going.
Nice to see you over here Fmess - congratulations on getting this far - bet you were bored to tears.

No, it was an interesting read for a Sunday and lovely to !!!8216;catch up with you!!!8217;, in a sense!

That sounds like a good price for all that work and peace of mind.

I think you must have smaller contracts than me for marking or you mark super fast! Your progress is impressive. Each of my contracts are 700+ papers, how many do you get? Good luck in London.

Yep, seems like a bargain to me. It's one of things which is unavoidable unfortunately. Let's hope that the last of the nasty surprises.
