Welcome E11ie
We hope you will join us again!
1LL, what is an urdd competition? Good luck to your DS whatever it isMorning all
Hope you feel better soon DNMS
And don't fret too much about the seeds, there is still plenty of time - the vile weather we have had (and again today, cold and raining hard) means that everything is late anyway. We are usually picking a variety of stuff by now, but only have rhubarb, a few salad leaves and radishes, and herbs ready this year so far.
My plans for today:
Check banks and update spreadsheet (Done)
Take items to sales unit as 2 quite big things sold yesterday and I have gaps on my shelves / floor space. As I pay rent for my space, I like to keep it full up! It was payday yesterday and I did quite well in AprilDone
Cook some game I got out of the freezer yesterday, will make Ragu from one of the River Cottage booksDone, smells good!
Wasn't intending to shop but my brother needs some stuff so will have to go - might as well get the bits I need as well. No doubt I will be paying for his too  As he is unable to work atm he isn't being paid, and will be getting short of money now. He earns quite well when working but spends it all, can't grasp the idea of saving for a rainy dayDone, all recorded in spending diary. My brother did pay me for his shopping:) , Says he is ok for his rent etc for a couple of weeks. Still not well enough to go back to work, and he was odd today, didn't really talk at all, disappeared into another room and doing sth on his phone. Hope he isn't gambling  Hope he is better soon - OH reckons not being able to go to work is getting him down
Anyway, I asked him to text me a shopping list (he knows I will pay if he hasn't got the cash, been there loads of times ). We will be passing his road tomorrow as we will be going to the market in that town.
Some housework later - too wet for gardening sadly! Not yet
Put a wash on later, hoping it will be dry tomorrow to peg it outside! Done
Finish yesterday's quiche off for dinner - ragu can do for later in the week as it needs cooking in the SC for ages. Done, used lots of salads and herbs to go with it, also found some radishes and baby carrots left from last year
Better get off backside and make a start!
Checked banks and updated spreadsheet
Well, the sun is out now (better late than never, I suppose) but it is still chilly  I put on my coat and boots, went outside and tackled the ground elder in the smaller of our two raised beds (this one is long and thin, or at least thinner than the other one, still quite big for a raised bed). It is planted with permanent stuff such as rhubarb and raspberries). Got out what I could but was wary of damaging the still emerging raspberry canes and the huge numbers of bulbs that are going over now, but come up each year. This will be an ongoing task, but I have at least given it a headache for now!
Really ought to do a bit of housework, unless removing a huge cobweb counts - they are hard to see in here, as the ceilings are high - or at least that is my excuse :rotfl:

I always read this thread but haven't joined in for a long time. Dawn, I have just read of your battle with the dreaded ground elder. Do you know that it is edible? It makes a good substitute for spinach, but pick it when young.

Good morning everyone :coffee:
Look at me, wandering back in here after months, like nothing has happened. You're such a lovely bunch though that I know that you'll all welcome me back with open arms and help me now that I'm at the start of another new chapter in my life. I am going to go and write all about it on my diary so I won't bore you all here, but in summary, I kicked DH out. So now it's just me, the 2 kids, 7 cats and a bit less money each month than I used to have. It's all very new to me and I'm a bit scared and nervous about getting into debt and managing a new budget etc. It has only happened over the past couple of weeks so there's quite a bit of adjustment to do, but I need to make sure I get back into some moneysaving ways until I figure out what on earth is going on with my finances.
I'm off work at the moment - just this week as it's taken me a bit of time to come to terms with what's going on. I am going back next week but everything is still a bit up in the air to be honest. I hope that you're all doing well, and I'm sorry I haven't been around for ages. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Used to do the swimming galas and outdoor activities but lovely for ur DS to want to take part as it offers so much, DD first language is Welsh and it's amazing the opportunities she has had through it including lots of filming work and her tutor group at uni is Welsh based.
DNMS I hope you are feeling better soon
Well I have sinned.....i did not triage my fridge *hangs head in shame* as I had to throw out a head of broccoli and put it in the food recycling.
Have been eating meals from out of the freezer that were made in the slow cooker.
Going to put leek and potato soup on tonight in the slow cooker.
Like DawnW i also received a roll of sellotape with RM surveys.

Hi Dawn,
I use weedkiller on our ground elder - it's in like a deodorant stick type container, and you click it, and it comes up as a gel that you dob on the leaves. It seems fairly effective. I treat them about once a week and just dob anything that appears. It stops me having to dig and rootle about.
