Morning Frugal Fairies,
Well it's May 1st. Beltane rites low key here. Woke up to icy cars though it's lovely sunshine here now. I'm marking the turning of the wheel of the year with a day in the garden communing with green & tweety stuff:
*Last load of this week's laundry pegged out & drying for free.
*Froze 3 portions of curry I made yesterday when Sunday's rubber chicken was even more stretchy than anticipated.
*Prepped veg for tonight & tomorrow's meals. No waste here.
*Dosed baby veggie plants with own label seaweed to help them catch up.
*Start another layer off in worm composter. Tapped off a whole jug of free liquid feed this morning....sufficient to make up about 6 watering cans full.
*Sowed pansies for autumn containers (free seed) & more lettuce & lemon basil.
*Pierced drainage holes in 20 recycled coffee cups for sowing climbing beans (next job).
*Crack on with knitting b-in-law's sock for the present box.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Free fitness edging a few garden borders.
That will be it for today as have prep to do for a tricky meeting tomorrow plus I may go out to a political meeting tonight. I can't understand why citizens of this country aren't leaping up & down with rage!!
Thanks for belated birthday greetings. My planned outing was rained off, but I had a city centre trip instead, enjoyed a bit of 'trying on' & was delighted to fit in a size smaller jeans than I thought I would! Unfortunately the nice dress I tried wasn't up to the job of containing the foxgloves boobs, so went back on the hanger pronto.

If you have standing orders with TSB - check that they haven't bounced

Well, I am Foxgloves
CLF, hope the banking issues you are experiencing don't end up costing you anything
Went out for a picnic today in our camper van - it needs some miles put on it before an engine thingummy is re-tightened up after its repair. No spends as we took food from home, made our own coffee and went to a place we have membership ofChilly, but a nice walk with the dog, lots of lovely spring flowers
Other than that:
Checked seedlings, watered those that needed it
Looked after baby GS for an hour while DD went to the doctor's
Filled quiche shell, which we will be having for dinner shortly
Will cook the rest of a cauliflower to go with it, plus jackets - slightly odd mixture? Well, maybe, but we don't waste food here if we can help itChucked in some odd end bits of cheese, the last 2 cherry tomatoes and the last few (defrosted, frozen) mushrooms out of the bag
Checked banks - some slightly odd amounts spent on card from Mr S - hmm, can't swear that there is anything wrong, but will be spending only cash there for the time being.... Because if I spend there, online banking never shows the spend on the correct date, and the amounts don't quite tally with my spending diary. Maybe my mistake (and never quite sure if OH has been in there, though he usually gives me the receipts), but Lidls can manage to get the right amount showing on the right date, so not sure why Sains can't. Need to keep an eye I think!
Added a few items to shopping list - nothing we can't live without for a day or two, so shan't need to go yetAnd will make sure I do most of it in Lidls!

Got out of work early yesterday so went to Marks and Spencer to see if I could become a yellow sticker warrior. I got 5 night's worth of dinner for £3.60. I leak a lot of cash on food so I'm chuffed with that!0

Morning all
Hope you feel better soon DNMS
And don't fret too much about the seeds, there is still plenty of time - the vile weather we have had (and again today, cold and raining hard) means that everything is late anyway. We are usually picking a variety of stuff by now, but only have rhubarb, a few salad leaves and radishes, and herbs ready this year so far.
My plans for today:
Check banks and update spreadsheet (Done)
Take items to sales unit as 2 quite big things sold yesterday and I have gaps on my shelves / floor space. As I pay rent for my space, I like to keep it full up! It was payday yesterday and I did quite well in April
Cook some game I got out of the freezer yesterday, will make Ragu from one of the River Cottage books
Wasn't intending to shop but my brother needs some stuff so will have to go - might as well get the bits I need as well. No doubt I will be paying for his too  As he is unable to work atm he isn't being paid, and will be getting short of money now. He earns quite well when working but spends it all, can't grasp the idea of saving for a rainy day
Some housework later - too wet for gardening sadly!
Put a wash on later, hoping it will be dry tomorrow to peg it outside!
Finish yesterday's quiche off for dinner - ragu can do for later in the week as it needs cooking in the SC for ages.
Better get off backside and make a start!0 -
Afternoon folks
Late check in from me as a bit busy in work
Dawn - thanksit'll be fine for me I think as I've got a fairly large slush fund in my current account and luckily I've been able to get in and make payments so far
Today's mission:- B/L/D from stores. Just need to pick up burger buns
- Reply to message re: sock commission - done
- Charge phone in work - done
- No alcohol

Have a good one all

Hi All
I love all these ideas for moneysaving, it helps keep motivated to keep chipping away at the big stuff too so thank you !!
I've been at work the last few days and they were both no spend days so am pleased by that, the temptation to buy coffee first thing was strong. Today I am:
Off to the gym this afternoon, will use all the facilities and have a sauna as the weather is awful here plus fill up my water bottle
Had to go into town this morning so I parked for free and walked in, I got very wet but saved me £2.50
Resisted buying coffee whilst in town (big achievement)
First load of washing done and air drying inside
Booked an overtime shift for next weekend
Need to batch cook for tomorrow night as both of us are working until 8pm (chicken dhansak made with leftovers from the roast)
Tidy up
Another load of washing
That should do for today :-)Total debts £6471.03 / £6261 all currently on 0% interest
Make £2018 in 2018 = £1010
Focus on 1% challenge = £64.500 -
Hi Wednesday Penny-Wranglers,
A rather difficult meeting this morning, but it didn't last as long as I was expecting, so was able to do a few bits......no gardening though, as the rain was torrential until this afternoon. I actually had to use one umbrella to get to the car (only parked on our front!) to fetch the big umbrella.....& I got soaked just doing that! Anyway, to the money-saving list:
*Managed to get street parking in town - it's as rare as hen's teeth, but I found a space & saved the parking fee.
*Did a survey - I am 80 points away from cash-out at the moment.
*Sorted clean laundry & only ironed what really needed it - 3 shirts, a top & a tablecloth! Listened to a radio play while ironing to relieve the tedium.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Posted an ebay parcel.
*Knit more of b-in-law's sock (presents box)
*Free fitness - rain has finally stopped so think I will get some extra steps by walking down to meet mr f on route back from his bus. (Yesterday, I was so busy that I exceeded my daily target of 7000 steps without even leaving home!)
*Make up a batch of fajhita spice. Haven't bought any for ages, since I discovered we have pretty much everything that goes in it.
*Using some of the re-fried beans I batch cooked a while back in tonight's meal. The spare wrap that will be left over will probably be my lunch tomorrow.
*Finished last of the kitchen hand soap. Why is this significant? Because we have decided to revert back to buying bars of soap in cardboard wrappers instead of adding unnecessary plastic bottles to the waste stream. And we won't actually have to buy any for a while, as I received a box of lovely organic fairtrade soaps for Christmas, so will start off with those.
*AND an exciting thing.....well, it is to me, anyway, after all the research......I have today ordered my bicycle!! Sounds spendy, but actually it isn't, as I was gifted some money specifically for purchasing a bike.
OK, I must get on or my good intentions about walking down to meet this bus for some free fitness will come to naught & I'll end up just sitting down with the kettle on & Cat under my feet trying to get his dinner early.
Cheers all,
F
Oh, DNMS - meant to say.....agree with Dawn, my veggie seedlings are soooo behind & I may have to start cukes again as they aren't doing very well even indoors (v cold house!) Tomatoes catching up a bit, but I'd normally be starting to harden off my courgettes & squash in 2 weeks' time & they have only just germinated. Aubergines looking good, but are not growing. So don't give up! If we get some sunshine soon, they will catch up x2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (36/100) 3) The Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
