Thanks so much Makethedayscount! That really means a lot :heart2:0 -
Quick weekend update:
1. Went to a business conference this week which was actually really great, and made me feel a bit more optimistic about work again. We also hired a few new employees recently who are doing incredibly well, which is just wonderful. It's still all a bit tough at the moment, but feels like there's light at the end of the tunnel
2. We booked another surprise holiday! This one is for Mr Julicorn's 30th birthday in February. I'm super excited. This time round, we opted for premium accommodation because it's a special occasion, so will be staying at a 5 star hotel (just no idea where!). Will report back, of course. :j
3. Last weekend I ran some numbers on the mortgage spreadsheet of doom. We were playing around with future plans, and thought it would be nice if we could buy our next / hopefully forever home in 2024, which is the year we'll be married for 10 years. Just out of curiosity, I calculated how much we'd need to overpay per year to pay off our mortgage completely by then (which is of course not necessary, but we were curious anyway), and it's a silly large amount - £27k per year. Had a look at YNAB, looked at how much money we didn't spend last year (so what was left over after any day to day spending, but also home improvements, holidays, etc, just with the mortgage OPs taken out of the sum), and it was exactly £27k. Feels like a sign somehow. We won't beat ourselves up if we don't hit that, of course, but it's a new stretch goal.
Hope you're all having a great weekend! :heart2:0 -
Oh my! A five star stay is exciting enough on its own (I've just come back from a caravan, even though it had two loos, its not quite the same :rotfl:) but this thing about £27k and paying off in 10 years could be really amazing, deeply so. Are you going to go for it?2023: the year I get to buy a car0

A caravan with two loos, I love it! It somehow reminds me that when I met Mr Julicorn, the only sentence he knew in German (I'm German, that's how that topic came up) was "My caravan does not have a toilet" :rotfl: Clearly remembered the important stuff from school!
The £27k a year goal feels like a real long shot at this stage, but I think we'll try and go for it. It feels like even if we end up way off, we'll have paid off that little bit more at least. I'm just also conscious that setting an unattainable goal might backfire a little too, and maybe end up being less motivating, so we'll see what we manage to do over the next year I reckon.0 -

I'll remember that forever! "My caravan does not have a toilet!" :rotfl: I have a similar language oddment running about my brain: the Greek for tea strainer is "sirotiri" or something like
Julie, your English is *so* colloquial, amazing. I've seen a fair bit of Germany (and Aachen twice, on various trips) but I haven't yet got to Berlin, and I haven't yet seen Neuschwanstein in Bavaria - it went on my bucket list when I saw a Dan Snow documentary on it. Wonderful stuff.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

You should definitely check out Berlin, it's absolutely amazing. Definitely my favourite city in GermanyI'll have to admit I haven't been to Neuschwanstein yet either, but it's also on my bucket list. We'll have to see which of us makes it there first

All going great
lovely to catch up. We went to Shubuya to watch Liverpool play football 2005 I think... 5 day flying visit. Great adventure but all on a credit card... It has taken us a long time learn the true cost of things.
