OP - dating sites, forget it. Give yourself a chance to find a partner. YouTube "PUA" pickup artist.

    Good luck.

I'm in the same boat. Been separated for 4 years. It seems I'm only good enough for affairs (no I haven't had any but is what I get asked). I know I'm not that attractive and am overweight but I see really ugly women (no offence meant ... I'm generalising) with men all the time.

Don't know whether to stick with it or not.
  • Pictures are massively important.
As a female I wouldn't answer anyone who didn't post a picture. Whilst that does sound shallow there has to be some attraction on a physical level. I've had some people say they would send my some via What's App but who want's to hand out their number to someone they don't know at all? Chicken and egg I guess.

My pet dislikes for photo's are snapchat filters, and topless ones....if I'd rather wait to see what's under your shirt :)

    Good luck with it

This sooooo much. I got talking to someone on Tinder who had said snapchat filters applied on her pictures. We moved to talking by text & she sent me a selfie & it was almost like looking at someone different.

I heard a comedian comment not so long ago saying the problem with people using such filters on all their social media pictures means it will be impossible to find them should they ever go missing :rotfl::rotfl:

    Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
    Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,

  • I am seriously done with dating americans...I found out recently that people in other countries often are less fussy and simpler in communication than americans. Seriously, try dating someone like this and you'll see for yourself: There are also a lot of sporty people here, I love it!

I met my partner on POF, its a numbers game - as a man you'll send out a much larger number of messages versus number of replies.

It was feeling a bit like ground hog day after a while. My tips and memories...do interesting dates. If you are doing something you enjoy then if you don't fancy the other person at least you're having fun. I did stuff like dog walking, fruit picking, beach dates. Coffee dates are terrible.

Memories...just about every single lady in Wales has a picture of them climbing Pen y fan. Every one.

Also, they all seem to love nights in but also nights out. So that is everything.

Many pictures of a group of people so you don't know which one they are...and so many 10 year old pictures (as in the pics are 10 years old, not they are!). I can't date you 10 years ago.

Best advice though, don't take it too seriously. Enjoy it, relax, have fun and don't put too much importance in it.

I met my husband 15 years ago on dating direct!! To this day we have not told anyone! It was a less common thing to do back then.
I've heard had things about pof and that it's common for hook ups more than potential relationships. I'd go for a site where you have to pay.
I actually refused to put a photo on my profile for a while. I got a lot more contacts once I put one on. I think photos only show so much.
My only advice would be don't spend too much time chatting online before meeting. It's so easy to portray yourself a certain way in writing. You might meet and find the person is actually really rude or very loud or smells in real life!
  • I do agree about "portraiting one in one's mind", my mom has divirced and now she is used to chatting online because she is a bit bored and feels lonely sometimes, and oh God she's got dissapointed so many times already and i'm so sad so her. But you never know where you can find that very person who is able to make your life brighter. My friend met her hurband on couchserfing, my another friend on meetville.com, so you never know how much you need to cope with before you meet your love

Meetville is a USA dating site, not much good here in the UK.

    I love skip diving.

  • I can't really give the Op any useful advice as Mrs MbW and I have been married for 17 years and known each other for 23 years, and she's Russian (you may not be looking for someone that far away).

Also, we met through a dating site that no longer exists, having been bought by another. There's a thread here, but I can confirm that I never had any problems with them, but the mergers and ownership changes happened around the time I left them after meeting my Mrs.
