You don't write to the manager of your local Tesco after buying something there or even for online purchases from other companies so why for Ebay?
Most websites have a product review or feedback facility. There's quite a growing band of sites that have feedback for supplier and customer which in some cases make sense. Airbnb, Uber, and several service providers have.

Most big retailers usually have a feedback option on their receipts now, even Tesco.

As for mandatory feedback on Ebay that would only work for sellers, Ebay would never 'punish' a buyer for something as trivial as not leaving feedback. As a seller my feedback is automated for any buyer who buys something and pays. As a buyer I never remember to leave it so don't bother.

If Ebay were to introduce something that automatically left feedback for a seller after 30 days that may work. They could send an email saying it is 30 days since your transaction, if all went well we will automatically give the buyer positive feedback, if it didn't or you want to leave your own feedback please click on this link.

As I said I have never understood the back slapping climate of feedback so neither give nor expect it from any retailer providing they do what they are supposed to do. However I WILL use feedback systems if they fail and expect to be treated the same if I fail.

So if you really want stars from me then you will only ever get 3 if you have done your job as you should. My stance probably won't go down well with a lot of the people on here but that is the result of needing stars for a purpose rather stars for performance.

Look on the bright side, you are probably better of with me not giving feedback than me giving you what you actually deserve for your performance

Was looking to buy a t-shirt earlier on Ebay, saw this

In returns for all this special care we do for you we are expecting a FIVE STAR DETAILED SELLER RATING POSITIVE FEEDBACK in all 4 SUBJECTS from you.

Didn't bother and bought elsewhere where it seemed a lot less hassle

  • I'm an occasional seller. I may go a year without selling and then i may sell about 10 items at once and then go another year without selling.

That said i pretty much always got feedback. To not get was rare.

Xmas 2017 i sold a few items for the first time in a long time and i think maybe like 2 people left feedback, the rest didn't. It'd be nice to force the buyer to leave feedback. If you have time to buy then you have time to leave a quick comment. I always do. My brother on the other hand is like the one you mentioned - never ever leaves feedback.

I'm trying to leave feedback right now, but eBay doesn't want to let me.

I have filled it all out but it just bounces back "Oops! Something went wrong, please try again." I have tried about ten times, refreshed, and even re-worded it, but no luck.

I'm wondering if it is because eBay removed the listing shortly after I placed my order? Still, the transaction was smooth and easy and all delivered 2 days early, so I think it should be possible to reflect that with feedback.

As a seller I like feedback mainly to indicate that the item has arrived. I've had folk contact me 6 weeks after somethings been sent asking where the item is!!??
At what point can you safely bin the proof of postage in cases like that?
You know the buyer will just go right to ebay if you don't refund them and they'll take the money.

As a buyer I tend to do it in a block and preferred the old version where you could do it all at once and leave all the feedback with one click.

Getting feedback though has never protected a seller from an INR case. For paypal purposes proof of posting needs to be kept for a minimum of 180 days.

I'm the same. It might take a week or two, but I always leave it.

I know we discuss feedback a lot on here but it definitely looks like buyer feedback on ebay is getting rarer, which could be an issue whislt our metrics are based on the number of feedback left, not on total sales.

I'm just doing a general tidy up on my accounts, weeding out some old listings, tidying up photos etc and whilst I'm doing that I'm also browsing feedback left by my recent buyers. At least 25% of them have never left any feedback at all, none of these are new buyers either, one of them has in excess of 600 + feedback and have never ever left a single comment back.

Getting feedback or not doesn't really matter to me, but whilst ebay base some of our performance metrics on it then it might become a worry later for sellers who are borderline on their late defects marked automatically by tracking, or on stars where only unhappy buyers are leaving feedback.
As a buyer I don't find feedback or stars tells me anything about a seller or the item I want to buy. Maybe buyers don't like that a seller can see what stars they have left them. What I don't understand is how can you leave positive feedback but then you mark the stars down.

I had an email last week from ebay asking me to leave feedback and this is also what the said.

In addition to leaving positive, neutral, and negative Feedback, buyers can also leave detailed seller ratings. Keep in mind, these ratings aren't anonymous-sellers can see the individual ratings they receive. Detailed seller ratings reflect a seller!!!8217;s performance in 4 areas:
    Item description.
    Communication.
    Shipping time.
    Shipping and handling charges.

Interesting ... how do you see the individual ratings?

    Thanks
