I am so glad you asked this ...It does causes issues to ask . especially if the contents may cause embarrassment to the customer and the post office staff. Also if i took 90 items for certificates of posting how would you remember the contents of each ? Oh I get the feeling you would iIt also shows the staff lack training, are not following procedures and lack of attention to details or a greater level of detail than a poster and a point?and poor training could mean their approach to financial accounting (the money handling) and security would be of the same fashion. The percentage of mail requring a certificate of postings is miniscule in comparison to the percentage of mail being sent without a certificate of posting,Im not sure of your point? with a lable and stamps and just popped in the post box no questions asked. Still not sure. Are you suggesting post boxes be removed?
I buy postage online using their partners paypal and I occasionally also buy postage direct from paypal.
So you buy from Post Office by Paypal?
Do you understand the reason for asking and the legal requirements on Post Office counters & Royal Mail?0 -

It's been pointed out to you by a couple of different posters (and ignored by you every time) that Royal Mail and the Post Office are entirely separate companies so you are incorrect in thinking that the Post Office had already asked you about the contents of your packages when you purchased the online postage.0 -

Really ? well why don't they ask people depositing parcels in a post box ? if its a problem to them and you ? why do they question people sending tracked postage who want a certificate of posting ?0 -
Good to see the OP still ignoring the point about buying online from the post office and then spouting the same rubbish with every post0

I bet you were livid when Waitrose stopped offering free coffee in their cafes too!
I'm hoping the OP isn't a T.Wells resident, that's far too close to home for my liking.
Anyway, T.Wells doesn't have a Waitrose (much to its own embarrassment), the closest is in Tonbridge and no T.Wells resident would ever go (or admit going) to Tonbridge.0 -
Surely there are some items that can not go through the Post Office system? Drugs/Knives/Gas Canisters.
I am regularly asked at the post office which is in the envelope/parcel as I know some items are not allowed to be carried, and sometimes I have had to pay more to protect the item inside that I wouldn't have been aware off if I hadn't been asked the question.
I understand the OP answered this question online before printing out the postage label, but there is really no harm getting asked again, to confirm as they are accepting the parcel/item as carriage so within their right to ask.
I know it can be annoying and I wish somethings are able to be carried via the PO systems (namely prescription drugs) but I understand why there are not and being asked when I post an item what is in there is a 2 second reply.
OP going by the fact you have complained about two post offices for not following things the way you feel they should, maybe suggest using a courier system.
You can print out your labels like you have done with the PO, but rather then take it to the local PO whom you are not a fan, you can drop the parcel at a local newsagent, or a local parcel locker where you will get asked no questions.

You are correct we use the Post office for up to 2 kilos and usually everything else buy UPS through parcel to go. and the difference between dropping off at a collection point and collecting from your home is about 90pence so in winter better to have collected from home. I ted to avoid MyHerpese because the deliver people use under insured cars and we had someone arrive her once with a kid straped in the back seat surrounded by parcels.
At my post office of choice i drop a sack of parcels off with them and when i arrive the next day with another sack collect the certificate from the day before.
If I have to use another post office I get a new member of staff.
Most Post Office staff get paid just above the minimum wage and if the job can only attract people who will work for just above the minimum wage then i would consider the amount of money they handle could be too much of a temptation. all they have to do is follow the training.
All Post Offices have access m by phone to a support centre to get a quick answer should they need it I discovered this from the Post Office customer support based in Chesterfield0 -

You are having a really difficult time understanding something that is very simple.
The Post Office and Royal Mail are two different companies.
When you put something in a post box you are giving it to Royal Mail so why would the Post Office want to or be able to question you about this?
You hand something over at a Post Office counter that has prepaid postage on it and at no time before this have they asked or been informed what that package contains so for their own safety, they are entitled to ask what is inside.
It's totally impossible for Royal Mail to enquire what is inside anything that goes into a post box so they probably trust that most people will abide by the rules and laws regarding what can and can't go through the mail. After all, you can't fit anything too big in (as is the case with just about every mail service around the world) so they may well assume that there is not much of a risk with mail deposited this way.0 -

Mate you’re clearly getting massive money from your novelty sex toy and edible underwear business. Just engage the services of a proper courier...0 -

What a vile attitude towards people who will, like most, take their jobs seriously and perform their duties in a professional manner. I can't comprehend any reason why someone's rate of pay should have a correlation with their trustworthiness. You are just making yourself look not only unreasonable but also incredibly smallminded and irrational.0
