Using an in store Post Office at a Waitrose I was incorrectly asked a parcels contents after buying on line postage printing the label and presenting the parcel at the post office and requesting a certificate of posting.

Why do you think that you were incorrectly asked about the contents?

Yes, you had already paid the postage and answered the questions asked but these questions were asked by Royal Mail so they they knew what the contents were and to ensure that they were acceptable for them to carry.

When dropping off the package, you were dealing with a second company (the Post Office) and possibly even a third (Waitrose).
They wouldn't have access to the information that you gave on the website so there is nothing wrong with them asking what is inside of the package that you expect them to accept and take responsibility of.

What if the contents were fragile or heat sensitive?
Surely you don't think it unreasonable for them to know what is inside so they can take any precautions that may be necessary whilst the package is in their care.

Can't wait until the OP goes on holiday as he will be blowing a gasket again.

Check in online and tick a box confirming that your luggage doesn't contain any prohibited items.

Go to the airport bag drop ........ and get asked the same question.

    How very dare they!

Given an awful lot of people tick boxes online without reading the preceding blurb I would be more worried if staff didn't do a secondary check.

For example do people read Microsofts War and Peace length terms and conditions when installing software? I would wager the vast majority do not.

It's too easy just to tick a box on a screen. Waitrose were entirely correct to do a secondary check.

As for the data protection breach complain to the ICO. I'm sure they need cheering up with a good laugh.

'Being nice' doesn't mean always agreeing with threads people post though. If you post on an internet forum you will get a range of views and opinions, and not 100% will agree with yours. That doesn't mean that people aren't being nice, just that they have a different view point from you.

If you want people to always agree with you, ask your friends and family. If you want a wide range of views/opinions and thoughts, ask strangers!

Given it is Post Office policy to ask a standard set of questions when accepting a parcel (this is factually incorrect about the Post Office policy for dealing with online postage and a simple request for a certificate of posting. Please check your facts)

I think Waitrose were wrong to uphold your complaint.

The reason they do this is to ensure it is items that they can accept and to check if you need extra insurance in case of loss.(again factually incorrect all i needed was a cert of posting)

Im so glad you asked me this because i contacted the post office about this branch and another and when they telephoned me they told me i was correct. I had complained about another Post Office which were awful and there were also security concerns about how they operated too.
The post Offices upheld my complaint c gave extra training at the bad Post Office and they also contacted Waitrose and gave them training on the procedure included a help line for all Post offices to called if they are unsure about a problem or situation

The Post Office upheld my complaint and sent me a gesture of goodwill and Waitrose on examining my complaint, also upheld it and sent me a gesture of goodwill

That was me being nice. I'm glad you acknowledge people do not read terms and conditions correctly.

I do have to wonder, given you've complained about two post offices, if they were trying to get rid of you. Especially as the complaint was completely spurious and would have most people rolling their eyes.

Why do I get the feeling the complaint was sent using green ink?
