'A39'
'winding country lane'
Does not compute.
I imagined a one - track road when you were describing this. On the first half-straight bit of road, indicate and pull in, and the police van would have been away.Must remember green means go on traffic light controlled roundabout, emergency services sirens, approaching about to jump red. Sorry it's green I can't stop!
Green means 'Go if safe to do so'.0 -
I was once on a dual carriageway where lane 1 had been closed off for roadworks - traffic was heavy and we were moving a few mph at most. An ambulance was behind me with lights and sirens going.
I had no idea what he was trying to achieve - I had nowhere to go to get out of his way.0 -

I would have tried to slowly come to a stop, but had coming to a stop simply inhibited their progress (i.e. single car road) I would have continued travelling at the speed limit. I certainly wouldn't speed (not for a bunch of coppers who would probably stitch you up anyway) and I wouldn't pull over unless it was safe to do so.0

It sounds like they were off to pickup their fish and chip order, hence the urgency....0

So here's my autobahn story from last week.
Traffic slows suddenly on 2 lane section. Police car coming the other way lights and sirens. Everyone in the outside lane moves onto the central reservation. Everyone in the inside lane moves onto the hard shoulder. Nice big gap in the middle now.
5 mins later the police car zooms up the middle.
Never seen that here before.0 -
I was driving at 30mph on a winding country lane, in a 30 limit yesterday afternoon, when a Police Transit came tearing up behind me with lights flashing and siren going !!
Try as I might - I was unable to get out of its way - there were no side roads or laybyes to pull in to - so I eventually decided to pull up on to a kerb - via a farm entrance - when I did this - the transit came past me with the police passenger leaning out of the window screaming "at last....." to me.
When I managed to get myself back on to the road - the underside of my car scraped on the kerb - damaging the felt panel under the engine (not that that is really important).
This leads me on to my question ...
Should I have put my foot down and gone over the speed limit - and road conditions ?
Should I have stopped on the lane - potentially leading to a rear end shunt from the transit (he was that close) - and leaving him to overtake me in a dangerous position ?
Or what is the expected actions of a normal driver ?
Have you ever considered getting all your stories together and turning them all into a compendium of short stories? You might do well from it by offering it as an ebook on Amazon.====0
