Can you post a Google map link for the road in question?
  • No doubt different police will give you different answers depending on their opinion, what they should do, whether their response is 'on record' or not, so on & so forth.

But i've been told that you shouldn't mount the kerb, shouldn't break the law, shouldn't risk damaging your car. Continue driving within the law & they'll pass when they can, might be in 5 yards or 5 miles time. If they're flashing & shouting then that's their problem. Are they going to pay for any damage to your car? Doubt it seriously.

What I said then. If you keep pounding along at 30 then they can't overtake because it's dangerous for them and anyone round the corner. Any straight just stick your indicator on so they know what you're doing, ease off slightly. They'll do the rest.

From what i can see of the A39, it's hardly a "winding country lane"
More like a normal rural road.
Must be safe to do more than 30 along pretty well all the part I've looked at outside villages.
I thought you meant a single track country lane.

Very easy to turn them back on and even without the lights they can exceed the speed limit.

If I'd done that when I was a fire service driver, I would have been in trouble. Perhaps it's different for the police?

You might have been in trouble with your boss, but not with the law.
