I remember my old Citroen BX TGD Turbo, made in 1989, bought in 94, scrapped 2006 at 233k (well clocked by previous owner) miles, all test results except one of 1.35 in range 0.6 to 0.85

That would be co2, not NOx, which is the driver for our present concern.

Neither of those. My post is replying to one about smoke tests.

    Thanks for continued posts.

The media today announce Nissan are the latest to drop D production in their cars, so thought I was worthing coming in to ask some more questions.

    1. From my research desiel used cars have not gone up, sure in Norfolk - might this be 4x4? Rural? In fact footfall across network retailers are down and prices are up.

In particular BMW, their used fleet prices have increased exponentially, yet there is a slow down of stock. Maybe this is to encourage their new car deals to appear more attractive.

I also heard from an industry source that they are up S Creek, largely because 80% of their estate is D.

    2. The used debate residuals is an interesting comment. The official residuals are currently around 2/3k on average less than they were perhaps this time last year. I'd like to think that there are enough educated car fans who know that D is not that bad in a couple of years. That said - if there are further bans / charges i.e. those Cities that will be following London's ULEZ "taxation" format people may be in a situation where they are stuck with their Euro 6 engine with noone wanting it because THEY will have no-one to sell it to.

    3. As a wild card, these new MOT tests. Older cars, driven by the frugal or the less interested in cars surely will be cloging up the scrap heaps. These drivers will be forced into purchasing something either because their DPF is a non economical repair or fails the test due to other emission/ Nox reason. Naturally as this is likely to be every single car before 2004.... are'nt we all going to be carless?

    4. Is there a positive or positives in this debarcle?

Here is a link to the CEO's and their thoughts, as of Apri 4th 2018

No great surprise there, since their corporate bedfellow, Renault, made a similar announcement nearly two years ago.

  • You may not be aware that EU5 engines are now not longer considered exempt.

Cars with EU5 engines will now be charged two years early starting April 19 to drive into London.

This will be followed by Oxford Bristol Brighton and Southampton.

My question is - will EU6 be next and thus ALL desiel cars will not be allowed into London or on the North Circular...

This is going to kill the economy.

I think you are over reacting.

Vehicles will get cleaner as time goes by, they will just use more Adblue.

"Fitting an approved filter to your exhaust could reduce your vehicle's emissions enough to meet the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) emissions standards"

    https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/ways-to-meet-the-standards/fit-a-filter

Buying a filter will cost between £1,800 and £3,500 for most vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles and between £3,500 and £7,000 for HGVs, buses and coaches

Getting a bit fed up of all the "let's hammer diesels in <insert city name here>" talk......I think the powers that be are ignoring the fact that the majority of diesels are in less urbanised areas and/or long-haul useage and as such don't produce the amount of pollution that city-dwelling diesels do.

Fine, do it locally, but stop hammering diesel for the rest of us

Agree - EU news is that even EU6 engines are breaking rules - I wonder if this means EU6 will soon also be charged sooner than we think!?

Surely - by virtue of the fact that they are talking only about adding charges to those cars in specific cities - they're actualy doing that?

No one has said anything about retrospectively introducing punitive taxation on diesel cars have they?

Of course hes over-reacting. But its thinking like that that gains momentum and causes scaremongering.

Its not the current taxation on diesels that has people running scared from them - its no clear vision and local councils on what they plan on doing in the future. And what people dont know they make up.
