 Kazwookie.
I have washed up after breakfast and then spent some time re-sorting savings accounts, having changed my mind about how much to keep in easy access / short notice rather than "fixed term no withdrawals", in case of emergencies.
DH has just taken Rosie for a walk in the sun, while I carry on slaving away over my essay. I did manage to write an outline of it yesterday, and I've got loads of material, so the problem will be cutting down rather than making up, IYSWIM.
I can't work at my computer during the afternoon because the sun shines right into the study bedroom, so I will take Rosie out for a longer walk after lunch and then mow the lawn again: it has grown rapidly in the past week, and DH can't do it, with his bad hip. I'm still not feeling 100%, but the stiff neck is improving slowly
I just need another :coffee: before I start on the essay again...0 -

SC down.. gammon for dinner
Shed vacuumed.. don't ask... now he has to put everything back in!
Laundry all brought down so 2x WM
He is now emptying the shed vacuum... yes I have one of those too!
Filled a binbag from the shed, found a power washer to donate to DS1 and vacuumed all the nibbled bonemeal.. fat mice!!
Plants next.. he needs to be outside.. and can supervise Twinkle while he is out there. The pan cupboard can wait I guess.. I'm far too happy having some extra worksurface now his tools are banished.
Off to hang out laundry and then do food.. he can have lunch out there, in the sun, with his daughter..
I just had a think with my head.. I can empty a pile of stacking boxes form the girls room into the outer SC box.. and maybe do some binning on the way... that's my afternoon occupied! and will clean a bit of floor in the girly room.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

OH saw a cat and lost a bit of his heart at one of the places we visited but it was reserved, so we didn't give it a second thought. Yesterday I realised we should ask if we could be a second reserve and lo and behold! it was available. So I emailed and asked if we could reserve it prior to visiting it to assess whether it might be suitable for us and to dog-check it.
OH took a phone call this morning from them and was told that as it is a 1 year old and we don't have a garden - No. They believe all young cats should be given a chance 'to explore the world around them' and we live in an area that's too dangerous for cats to roam. WE KNOW!
That's why we've fenced and netted the back yard.
We're here pretty much all day every day. We have masses of visitors, all of whom are pre-warned it's a multi-animal household and love being around them.
The sundeck and yard are bigger than most people's gardens, there's a catflap to them, the house is on seven different levels and everything, dogs and cats, of all ages that have lived here have loved it, raced around it, found their own favourite places, and made various spaces their own.
They would probably all have beeen happy in a tiny modern house where the entire household was out at work and school every day, on a modern housing estate, with pocket handkerchief sized-gardens where they could have explored, but they'd have needed to explore because they wouldn't have had the stimulation they'd get here without roaming.
But because we have a paved yard instead of lawn - No. We are only eligible to adopt a cat six years old or older, apparently.
It's great, absolutely great, that animal rescues are careful about where they place animals, and it's even better that they treat each animal as an individual.
I just wish they'd treat prospective adopters as individual, too.

So, a bit of ragedusting might be in order here.Better is good enough.0 -

And they wonder why people don't adopt? Largely because when people try to, they're told they aren't good enough. I had a kitten practically stuffed down my jumper by one rehoming place because they were so keen to get her into a family. They didn't care I was a pregnant teenager living in a tiny flat overlooking a dual carriageway and had never had a pet of my own before - they just wanted her taken into a warm home where she'd get spoiled. Which she was - after I defleaed her without any chemicals except for Pears Soap and hot water, because she was only about 5 weeks old.
These days, I don't think I'd have the patience to deal with rehoming inspections.
Short day at work thanks to a hospital appointment. They've decided that I'm not responding well enough to the Methotrexate, so they're upping the injections one last time to see if that works and, if not, I'm leaving the Cheap Seats to take my place with those who get the expensive biologics. Which, with the way my feet hurt right now, sounds very tempting. The doctor also pointed out that I've got a nice big patch of Psoriasis at the base of my skull and my speed in getting up and walking wasn't great. Gee, thanks - maybe if I hadn't been waiting in a hard premoulded chair bolted to the floor for 85 minutes after my appointment time, I might have been able to get up and then follow you trotting off at warp speed to the consultation room.
Anyhow, Himself sent a rather sweet message saying he's really happy that they're looking at further options (and loads of burble about Band Stuff and how he's missing me and the cats).
Staggered through some clothes shopping (which I detest, but I noticed just how motheaten I've started looking, thanks to some mirrored window glass alongside an escalator) and nearly got home before throwing a fit because I'd thought I'd lost my door key. I found it ten minutes later, still attacked to the same part of my handbag it always is. Idiot.
Now debating whether to clean/cook or go and have a bath. I think the bath is winning right now.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Thanks, Jojo. I feel a lot better have dashed off an email to Private Eye (rage-writing instead of rage-dusting) about a local issue, and explaining to OH that I feel as strongly about having my animal welfare credentials doubted and questioned as he does about his team losing. As he was listening to the commentary on the current match he now understands just how enraged I am. I've checked Gumtree and there are kittens available locally which are cheaper than if we adopted a cat or two from a rescue centre. If animal rescues choose to reject perfectly good homes that's what people will do. The next time they bleat for money they won't be getting any from me.
Good news on the medical front, and glad to hear your OH is making all the right noises.
I really must finish the dusting tomorrow.Better is good enough.0 -
Gosh never realised adopting an animal was so difficult, I feel quite put off now. We are planning on having a dog in a few years time once we don't sail to certain places so much and have always said we would adopt one. Currently have 2 cats one of which was chosen as a kitten from a small holding near us which regularly has litters and we asked if we could have one (otherwise they get rid of them), there were 2 in the litter and we chose on one and another family took the other one. Our second cat chose us, he turned up in the garden one day very skinny and crying, he just wanted love and was never agressive to our resident cat (although she still hisses at him when he gets nearer than 50 cm). My daughters used to feed him and so when he was still here after our holidays we decided to keep him. We tried to find his owners to no avail, he did belong to someone as he had been castrated but was a bit of naughty approx 10 month old kitten so I guess someone had him in a flat and got fed up of him and decided that he would be fine abandoned in the countryside.
Sorry I've rambled on too much. On to Flying, not at work today and have a long list of appointments to organise will be making the necessary pphone calls and will hopefully have a clean through.
Up showered and dressed
Bed made and bedroom straightened
Bathroom wiped (well sink and loo)
DW emptied
Bins brought in
So time for coffee, help yourselves
