I have a bissell and it works really well. If you have any long term stains you may need to use the floor tools and go over the stain a few times . My son 10 has frequent nose bleeds and being a boy likes to let it drip the blood on the carpets. !! On the bisslle web site you can buy an oxy cleaning spray I have used that very successfully on the blood spots on the carpet in between using the machine. In fact he had quite a bad nosebleed a few weeks ago and I used the machine that day and the carpet came up really clean. In fact my carpets are 7 years old and still look good despite a husband who forgets to remove his shoes!! And 2 kids the bissell has done a really good job.
I have just checked the idealworldtv.co.uk website they sell bissell cleaning stuff much cheaper than bissell or argos do. For 3 of the oxy sprays 19.99 bissell sell it for 28.00. I bought mine from bissell before i found the idealworld website. The oxy spray last for ages I have only used 1 lot in about 2 years! Despite the nose bleeds.0 -
Rugdoctor = £50 to hire once for 24 hours
Bissell = £100 and yours forever
Rug Doctor is only 24.99 for 24 hrs hire in most outlets I've seen it in, supermarkets, B&Q etc. Does a really good job too.Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A0 -

It's a bit cheaper on Amazon (£3.88 plus postage):

Also you don't have to use Bissell shampoo in your washer. The carpet 1001 from Poundland is just as good0 -

Be aware that domestic machines leave traces of cleaning chemical in the carpet, which means it will soil quicker.
A Rug Dr will do a better/longer lasting job than a domestic machine as it's more powerful, but the chemicals used are still "domestic" strength.
The best way of getting your carpet cleaned is to employ the services of a professional.
Not only will the professional extraction machine remove all traces of chemical from the carpet (=No premature resoiling) the operator will use professional strength chemicals which will give far better results.
You pays your money...etc
(PS: I clean carpets part time as a "home business".)0 -
Tip:
One common mistake made with domestic machines is overwetting the carpet.
Once this occurs all the crud that is on the floor under the carpet will "wick" up into the pile leaving a stain.
Only allow the machine to pass over the same spot two or three times...0 -
Here's a very good video on the benefits of regular carpet cleaning:

Hooray!
Another stardrops devotee.
This is the most underrated product on the market and really effective. ( I am not the MD of stardrops incidentally).
You can save a shower spray bottle and mix up your own spot removal spray; 3 parts water, 1 part stardrops.
Always test on an inconspicuous area before wider use on upholstery. Perfect for leather cleaning, excellent in the kitchen and bathroom.
My own Vax gives sterling service for years now. it is a bit bulky but unlike the bessel cleaners it is a powerful vacuum cleaner in its own right.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

I was thinking about hiring a rug doctor last month and it seemed a bit steep considering i have to do all the hard work myself :P
So i decided to try a carpet cleaning company & they seemed to be cheaper than hiring and i didnt have to do it myself either lol :P
Company i used was called cleanstar think thier website was "cleanstar dot co dot uk" and i would definatley recommend them

Carpet cleaning device involved a place for storing of water, many kind of wands to pressurize water, drying part and an additional heating element to heat up water.Soaked cleaning systems naturally use period, which has led to person concerns about very slow drying. Wet shampoo cleaning along with rotary machines, followed by soaked vacuuming.0
