I would appreciate any advice and real life experience anyone has had with the following carpet cleaners. I put down what I thought where the best points in blue as a breif summary. I am not sure if want to go with a rotating or static brush:
Vax V-028 Rapide Power Jet Pro Carpet Washer
The Rapide PowerJet range uses PowerJet Technology -high powered jets of water apply carpet cleaning solution and clean water mix into carpet fibres while the static brushbar agitates carpet pile to lift dirt and debris. They also have a wide cleaning path, which is great for washing larger areas.

I've had my VAX for about 20 years and its still brilliant for cleaning carpets.

I have one of the Bissell cleaners and have used it on both carpets and upholstery.
It is really very good the results are impressive.
Think it is going to come down to personal choice as budget_councellor_shaz has had a vax for 20 years and is still impressed with it.0 -
I've got a Vax Rapide Pro (not sure which model as I've lost the instructions) - it does have rotating brush. It is pretty good on my cream carpets but I would say it is best for keeping your carpets spruced up rather than heavy duty cleaning of high traffic areas - you'd still need a stain remover product. The only thing I would say is that it is quite heavy and cumbersome to use - especially carting it upstairs. I'm not a wimp but I have to use it in spurts! You'd think twice about whipping it out to suck up a spillage! You also need to use the upholstery tool for edges, corners, stairs, etc. I'd suggest you have a go at pushing it around in the store if you can - and then imagine it full of water! You also need to think about where you'll store it as it is quite hefty at the base.
Having said that, I'm reasonably happy with mine as it is pretty straightforward and doesn't do a bad job at all.0 -
After reading a number of reviews, it seems the Bissell ones are better build quality than the Vax ones (lots of leaks and breakdown stories with Vax)0

I've got a Bissell which I bought in January. I have used it probably about 5-6 times so far. Whilst it doesn't get out tough stains from carpets (stains which I can't get out from hand scrubbing either), it is really good at freshening up the carpets. I have had a lot of decorating done in the house & there was so much dust. The carpets look as good as new after a good wash0

I have gone and ordered the Bissell Powerwash 2 now - I was hoping for a bit more feedback on it, but obviously not a hot topic!0

Hire a rug doctor from homebase, johnsons or somerfield. Carpet will come out as new, its absolutely brilliant.0
-
Rugdoctor = £50 to hire once for 24 hours
Bissell = £100 and yours forever0 -
It works ok - it doesn't do wonders and remove all stains, but it freshens them up and if you work it hard on stains it does make them disappear or lessens them - but takes alotr of work0
