  • Is anyone else having problems with line quality? I called two insurance companies yesterday (0845 numbers). Both said that the line was so bad they could not hear me. I rang direct and the line was clear so there is no doubt that 18866 is causing the problem.

I have had no problems with line clarity since starting with 18866 back in April .
JRYDER,why are you using 18866 for 0845/0870 numbers it is cheaper to use B.T. 3p per min as against 4p per min with 18866
Also check out on this same thread under "18866" started by studentnurse36 as it is possible to dial 0845 numbers for 2p per min

I've been using 18866 for about a month now and have just got my first bill from Eurobell/Telewest. All the calls that I made via the 0808 number prefix have gone via a number in Crawley, and charged at Eurobell's standard rate (not freephone!!) >:(

Has anyone else experienced this expensive problem?

I'm going to try complaining to 18866 to see what they have to say.

Erm.. I would be complaining to Eurobell/Telewest if I were you and not 18866... - about why the calls are not free.

    Regards
    Sunil

Absolutely.  If you dialled a freephone number, that's exactly what they should be charging you.

It's different with some PAYG mobiles - but they make it clear up front that Freephone numbers are chargeable.

Sign up for BT Yahoo and you can use the following number to dial up 01214789200 which will be charged at the 1p
  • It all depends on how much they decide to compress your international calls!

Telephone companies have so much bandwidth to transport your calls across the globe. The more they compress your calls, the more they can potentially make! This saves them huge amounts of money, as they do not need as much bandwidth.

BT tends to choose quality over price, hence why BT international calls are so expensive. However the smaller Telco’s realise they can squeeze more calls in, without impacting on quality to a huge extent.

Some companies however have taken this too far however, hooking people in with unbelievable prices, sacrificing quality for quantity.

    I won’t bore you anymore :)

Yep got to agree line quality is complete crap.

I can hear the other person perfectly but they are always complaining that it is a very bad line.
