I´m in Spain at the moment spending the money that I´ve saved on my BT bill. Sound quality is like the cost of calls, great!

    Now that's sad ;D

    It's fab!!! ;D

On the odd occassion when I go nuts on the phone, I have trouble dialing - get the engaged tone for an hour or so :-/

I love it when I hear the "this is a free phone call" message ;D Haven't got my BT phone bill yet ??? Can't remember when I signed up for 18866, but I am sure a BT bill should have been here by now.

It's a shame that BT bumped there line rental to compensate for prefix users - when I wasn't one >:( But now is the time for payback .... thanks to MSE I'm now a prefix junkie ;D ;D
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

i also have had no probs at all with 18866 and 98 pnece for a month of calls cant be bad

  • 18866 . I have been using their service for some while now without any problems with the line quality or anything else that matter.
I wouldn't know I wasn't using BT as far line clarity is concerned only know the difference at the end of the month when I pay £5 or so instead of the approximate (calls only) £20 BT bill.
I phone South Africa quite a lot and get very clear connections.
Please don't be put off by the odd moan change to 18866, save money, and kill off BT and their exorbitant charges.

Use http://www.saynoto0870.com/ so that you don't have to pay the ripoff 0870 rates. I often get a free alternative 0800 number when I search this site.
All we need now is someone to come up with a scheme to eliminate having to use and pay BT's line rental. I would be first in line that this one.

    ;D ;D ;D ;D

    Hi

I have used 18866 for some 8 months now I think.

Ring my kids in Canada and Oz at 61 pence AN HOUR !!

No prolems with line clarity UK or abroad

Only odd thing is when a pal also on 18866 in the next telephone area code to me but only 5 miles away rings me my CLI ( caller ID ) sometimes tells me it is an international call ie 4401283XXXXX .

They must route some calls out of and then back into the UK.

Also I love the lady who tells me " this is a free call".

I know it really costs 1 pence but I can live with it.

Also I have now set up my Orchid dialler so 18866 is selected without having to remember to insert the prefix .

And I can easily change it if another better deal comes along. 09 calls are barred as well.

Thanks to Martin Lewis and all the happy & helpful forum folk who have made this such a useful web site.

  • Just had to add my tuppence worth ( or is that 1p?)

18866 is a tremendous way of avoiding the larger rip off merchants in the telecoms world; and it would be marvellous to see such competition emerge amongst the utility providers, who have us clasped by the throat on gas and electricity prices.

Thanks to all the gang for sharing their knowledge.

    D.
Thanks to all who've gone before, and those yet to arrive.
  • I also find 1866 to be excellent line quality and reliability.

Ring my kids in Canada and Oz at 61 pence AN HOUR !!

Sign up with 1899 and set that in your Orchid as the prefix to North America and you will be able to talk to your kids in Canada for 33p an hour !!

A truly wonderful service, however when I am charging my customers 75p upwards for sending a fax I feel a little guilty when the lady says "This is a free call".

I even find myself coughing to try and quieten her voice

I am really intruiged as to how call18866 make their money on uk national calls? it must cost them something to provide the calls.

UK line quality is brilliant for me however international calls are a bit dubious.

I am led to believe that the real cost is in making and disconnecting the connection - after all that is when something is actually done. Realistically they probably make their money on calls to mobiles and calls abroad. They but over-capacity from other companies cheap and sell it at a profit. Buy Low - sell nearly as low !
    To infinity and beyond!
