Also, I gave my boxes of chocolates all given as presents but not to my taste to the food bank.
It was good to get rid of things. I used to feel bad about giving away presents but now I just get my enjoyment from the pleasure of being thought of and then I pass it on. I have tried telling people that I prefer experiences like a tea and cake treat where we spend time together instead of stuff but the message has not got through. Never mind.doingitanyway wrote: »

I am scared that I am overcommitted.
I was supposed to be budgeting and doing the pots method but I cleared all the pots to pay for the windows.
I can’t get my phone working so will have to buy a new one. I said yes to the lady decorator and after getting the price reduced by agreeing to do the woodwork myself I can’t now say no. I have a big fuel bill that came yesterday too.
I have a small emergency fund, but that is for the MOT (in February) and as it is if anything is wrong with car that costs much that fund won’t cover it.
Being a grown up sucks sometimes.
I’ll be back tomorrow with some sort of plan…

Hi DIA,
I'm sure you'll find a plan. Do you really have to stick with the decorating being done now, if you'd rather wait?
Have a good evening and enjoy doing something else before you go back to the budgeting.

New Phone - there are plenty of offers where you can get a (reasonably decent phonefor £0 upfront cost and £20-£25 per month for reasonable data) - I don't know your requirements - but my strategy is to look through the MSE best buy guide (there is even a cheap mobiles article which reckons you can change and pay only £10 a month) . I also compare with other lookup sites, then call my current supplier and work out a deal. This will get you a phone within 1-2 days and defer spend from your lump sum budgets into ongoing costs.
Also - its completely awkward - but you can say "NOT YET" to the decorator, and unless she was literally coming tomorrow they are as used to being chopped and changed by clients as you are to being stood up. If you have a reasonable savings estimate of when you might be able to recommit that would help - I think she would honor the agreed price at a new date, but that is a risk you run by changing.
Good luck with your planning - these are the circumstances in which I would find a way of juggling my debt for it to accommodate a bit more and delay my Debt Free Day. Your views on that certainly seem stricter than mine so only you know what you are happy with
Hope this helps - best of luck

I agree with maybe seeing if you can delay the lady decorator?
Alternatively could you manange without a phone for a month or is that an insane idea? :rotfl:  I speak as someone who didn't have a mobile for most of my life. I'm thoroughly addicted to my phone now but I know that I could manage without one in theory.
A third alternative is to maybe cut down on other areas like food and see if you can eat cheaply for a while to claw some money back?
I know you'll think of something as you're very resourceful.

Can you believe that your current concern about getting work done is financial? This is solvable. A year ago you wouldn’t have even known possible costs due to your fears.
