If you lived near me I could recommend some people who do building work, plumbing and decorating and are really polite and pleasant to have in the house. All my relatives and friends use them too.
HairyHandofDartmoor wrote: »That sounds very sensible DIA and I'm sure it will work well. A cheap phone would be good as a temporary measure. And it will be very nice for you to have your room decorated.

I had the window fitters here at 8.00am fixing the patio door that has been faulty for a good few years. I did not have to pay as the door was under warranty. Done! It is now draught free and the opening hinge works properly. It is nice to think the doors can be fully open in the Spring
I cheekily got the window men to help me move a chest of drawers upstairs as they will eventually go in the spare room. The living room is much more spacious without it.
Eating from stores is going well. Yesterday I had sardines and a potato. I made some coleslaw and tahini sauce and had an orange and a few squares of dark chocolate after. I did not feel deprived
I have soup for lunch. Tonight I will have some lentil pasta I found in the cupboard with pesto and some smoked salmon ribbons and a tomato and onion salad. I have a big frozen turkey so I will defrost that for the weekend.
The lady decorator is doing a grand job and the room already looks lovely. I feel a bit ashamed that I had such a big, beautiful room that has remained unused for years. It is what it is.
Such a nice day here, blue skies but cold as ice.
Wishing you all a lovely dayIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Food is sounding delicious
You eat a lot of things I don't and that gives me food for thought (excuse the pun). I'm always Googling what's on your menu and wondering if it's something I'd like.
Great news about the doors - Spring won't be too far away and I bet the fresh air and Spring mornings will help your creativity.Sealed Pot Challenge 075

all sounds very positive. so that's good - coming after the windows adventure I was worried to check back in to find out about the decorator. Obviously I needn't have worried.
Try this experiment as you look back over the month (a habit of mine - mainly to make sure I havent forgotten anything important) - think about where you were this time last year and see all the things that have changed - even from my brief engagement with this diary I would suggest there will be far more positives than negativesI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Brilliant news about the patio doors and that your room is looking so lovely. At least you can use the room now and get some pleasure out of it

I didn't take stock at the end of 2018 so i am doing this exercise prompted by Mark88 (thank you)
Since this time last year in this house I have done the following:
Porch repaired and retiled with a new roof
New bay windows
Outside timber in the roof apex repaired and painted
Wet rot removed and made good
Exterior of the house and brickwork painted
Patio door hinges fixed
Wiring in the loft all repaired and a new light source created
Electricity at the top of the stairs reinstated.
Bedroom walls repaired and repainted
The funny thing is my neighbour knocked yesterday and said how good the house was looking (from the outside as I didn’t invite him in) He kept saying it must be a lot of money! I think he thinks I have ‘come into money’ I wanted to tell him my secret was the MSE forums.
Seriously, this forum has been key in clearing my debts, my mortgage and then ploughing my modest part time salary into the house whilst living on much less than I thought I could whilst still having nice things along the way.
I really appreciate all the support I have on here to tackle my house (and my life generally now I think of it) As INOD reminded me, a few years ago I could not even let anyone to quote!
