Car. Sorry, didn’t realise the charges were for vans:cool:

I think it depends on the council - I did check and they said anyone can be asked to provide proof of address, but in practice they normally ask vans to provide it but don't ask cars.

In the area where I live you have to book ahead if you want to take any kind of van, and they track how many visits you make each year to make sure you're not running a waste disposal business.

With our council, you have to apply for vouchers which are printed with the vehicle details.

The number of vouchers per vehicle per year are limited.

After a few years of taking an estate car to the tip here without let or hindrance, we received a communication requiring us to register our vehicle and provide a password or some such for subsequent visits. I have just consulted OH and he has been asked to produce proof of this once (it's inside his windscreen)

Completely off topic but it's no wonder fly tipping is on the increase, is it?

There is no excuse for fly tipping, ever. That is the kind of attitude of ... Oh yes, the daughter you were complaining about.

I wasn't saying it's a valid reason for fly tipping, but the council restrictions do probably explain the increase.

Speaking of the daughter, friend got another text saying thanks for helping dad move the stuff and sorry for the bad language. I don't think she really is sorry - I think dad's put a rocket up her whatsit.

I think the whole registration thing is to stop businesses that are supposed to pay to dispose of waste abusing the household rules for tips.
  • Re flytipping - and it's no excuse I know (obviously) but I was surprised to find how much some Councils charge to come and get a "bulk waste collection" of large items being thrown out from someone's home. The only counterbalance to this is that I've found people are likely to take away bulk items I don't want - if I just offer to give them away for free to anyone wanting them.

I'd rung up my current County Council asking when the free once or twice a year nearby bulk waste collection was - only to be told they don't do this at all. This may explain noticing a lot of tipping here - compared to rarely noticing it prior to moving (it had started happening in the road I lived in - and hence one of my reasons for moving). But, basically one could rely on countryside and green space being "countryside/green space" and not a rubbish tip.

    Times change.

Most councils in the West Country have relatively high charges for non domestic waste disposal , but I won't say which one is the worst offender!

Fly- tipping has been going on for years.

Back in the early 1960s used to go to Norfolk coast for the day with my parents and their friends. We would stop for picnic by the woods near the Sandringham Estate. Walk a few yards into the woods and there was all sorts of rubbish, at least one mattress.
