So its highly likely she doesn't want or need anything she's left. She will have expected to walk away from this furniture telling herself the new owner can use it.
I would fill the garage and store extra items outside covered in plastic then use the solicitors to get a payment for its removal. It'll be an education for her.

I think she does want it - otherwise why the original note about picking it up, the lies about vans breaking down and getting her dad involved. Why not just either agree that my friend could carry out his threat to take it to the tip, or just ignore him completely in which case it would have gone to the tip.

I suspect there's a gap between wanting it and having a use for it and somewhere for it to go. Its being moved now because her dad trying to do what his daughter wants regardless of any reasoning.

I'm pleased its getting sorted for your friend. Its unfortunate he bought a house from such an irresponsible and immature person.

Perhaps the BF will get tired of her and she will need her tat back to furnish wherever she moves next.

OP - Just in case the collection doesn't happen there's some info on involuntary bailment here: https://www.stephens-scown.co.uk/commercial-property/whose-belongings-are-they-anyway-dealing-with-involuntary-bailment/
Just bear in mind that the notice mentioned would normally have to be a hard copy - email or text would not be good enough.

The plot thickens! It sounds to me like she left the furniture there deliberately knowing that the OP's friend wouldn't be able to do anything about it as the solicitors are closed for the long weekend.

When she comes to collect her stuff, I'd be tempted to knock her teeth down her throat but judging by her behaviour and foul mouth, she probably hasn't got any :D

Maybe she's really away filming an episode of Jeremy Kyle :rotfl:

    What a palaver !

As someone else has already pointed out, it's essential that OP's friend changes all of the locks. This mare sounds capable of anything.

Rest assured all locks are changed! First thing he did. Just the garage lock needs changing now, we were waiting til her stuff had gone.

True to his word, when I got there with a van full of my friend's stuff this morning, dad and a helper (his teenage nephew) were waiting. They helped us unload my friend's stuff, loaded the daughter's stuff which I delivered to a relative's house. Said junk is now in relative's garage. Teenage nephew (who is about 14) said it might come in useful in the future because he wants to move out with his girlfriend. Bless.

Dad bought my friend and the nephew bacon sandwiches this morning while they were waiting for me. Annoyed at missing out

    You snooze you lose. ;)

Glad there has been some resolution. daughter should be treating dad to a lot more than a bacon buttie. Hope he's not holding his breath.

Well done on resolving this for your friend. The Poor dad.

Pleased he did this but she has yet to learn life lessons - because she has got away with it. I'm sure its not the first (nor be the last) time her dad has had to bail her out due to her irresponsible behaviour.
