Just a tip on map data, take no notice! I work in the GPS business and I have a Tomtom with the latest software and there are many roads missing over 5 years old. There a whole major bypass near Soham that was built in the late nineties that isnt on the Tomtom.
Also for the best deal on GPS at the moment look at Dabs. They have the Becker Ferrari 7929 with European maps and built in TMC for £115 inc.

4" screen too. You want get that spec cheaper.
Cheers for that, my parents wanted a satnav and I have been watching this thread avidly to find a well-spec'd bit of kit and your suggestion did it. Just waiting for the delivery now. If it is very good I may be tempted to get one myself. Anyway thanks for the suggestion.0 -

Oh dear, you could be clearer if you "work in the business".....
Maps on Sat navs are generally provided by 2 companies, Teleatlas (this includes the majority of sat nav's including TomTom & Navman) and Navteq which does the maps for Garmin.
There would be no difference between a navman or tomtom with the same map data in terms of the roads that it knows about, the only differences would be in how sensitive the sat nav receiver is, how fast the system can interpret the data and update the screen/route and the user interface....
The Becker you linked to has maps by NAVTEQ and therefore may have the road that is missing off your TomTom (asssuming you have the latest maps as opposed to the TomTom device software which are 2 very different things) but this could well have other glitches instead.0
