Hi there.
My mum wants to buy my dad a Tom Tom sat nav for christmas and I wonder if anyone could tell me the best place to get it at the moment. She wants to spend a maximum of £165. I will be using a cashback site of course!!
Thanks xxLet's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:Virgin CC £9793.710 -
Personally, I think TomToms are overpriced, especially if you compare this Navman for £78 (with Euro Maps as well) with the equivalent TomTom, which is approx twice the price. Just a thought. Navman are just as an established brand as TomTom but the TomTom name has gotten into the public conscioussness more (although I note Navman are currently advertising on national TV). Having said that, this Navman is more than the equivalent TomTom on Argos (£200), so it really is an absolute steal if you have the patience to wait until it comes back into stock.0

I purchased Garmin navi 250 with euro maps £130 on special from halfords, Did order sony 52 £99 but was told in store they have a problem with East and West...
PS... regarding Tomtom I use these at work were over £250 and I find sometimes they are totally useless,Twice it tried to send me in the wrong direction, Thank god I knew the area..but this might be a common thing I often hear about all sat nav's ??I would love to be a Travel Agent :j0 -
awww shame I missed that john lewis navman deal
here's hoping they come back in stock soon

I've used a few over the years and have found the 'MyGuide3100' to be the best overall.
Compact, robust, light, expandable, (hackable),quick, cheap...the list goes on.

Prepare to be impressed!

hmmmmm looks interesting, I'm going to sit and read through some of the reviews later. I used to own a tomtom one for a couple of months in the past for work but returned it as I had no real need for it in the contract I was doing as everyone else I was with had one.
I then owned an ipaq rx5720 PDA with tomtom software which was a great piece of kit, and of course tomtoms are great in the sense that its easy to acquire updated maps and speed camera files etc. Unfortunately, within a month that PDAs gps antenna broke and they had no more stock.
I have no experience of any of the other brands. I do know though that some people can hack certain machines, and put other peoples software on it. do you know if tomtom can go on this hardware if turns out its not as good? without any soldering or pic programming involved0 -
no matter I read that in the 2nd review
tx hmm to get this or hold out for the N40i

I know me too, but i may just get the myguide today as it's smaller than the navman, although the navman has better gadgets on it!
My only concern with the 3100 was the lack of support, i have read other reveiws and although everythingnhad top marks apart from the support, if somone can put me at easy to the fact it can be updated (hacked) or whatever i'll get this. I really want the speed camera warning software on there aswell, any help guyz
Also, any cashback sites doing cashback on ebuyer? or any discount codes around?
Cheers0 -
It's a bit of a quandary, isn't it? If the Navman was in stock the choice is IMO an absolute no-brainer, at £78 delivered it cannot be beaten, especially with all the gubbins it has, speed cameras, camera, POIs, PLUS Euro maps (which themslves would cost more than £78 to add-on later!). But if you want one immediately then I suppose it's the Myguide. Although I, too, would be worried about the support. Decisions decisons...0
