    Are you serious? Anyone can have a website. Most scams have a website. You can set one up for about a tenner, if that.
    I wouldn't say hotel room, more a conference room which I think would be an appropriate place to recruit imo

    A conference room (in a hotel, as opposed to in the employer's office) is what I was referring to.

    If you are asked to go for an interview in a hotel conference room it is a screaming red flag. If you aren't being scammed into a simple advance fee fraud, then chances are you are about to be recruited into a pyramid scheme or another type of scam instead.

    I'm sure that high-powered executives get interviewed in hotel conference rooms occasionally, when they've been headhunted from a great distance and it makes more sense than flying all the way to headquarters, but if you're a high-powered executive you're not going to be reading this thread, nor are you going to be asked to hand over £180 for "training".

    For hoi polloi like us there is virtually no legitimate reason why an employer would want to conduct interviews in a hotel and not at the workplace.

    Rubbish. I worked for a care company with over 2000 employees. Services were dispersed, supporting people in their own homes. Offices were generally small, with a couple of managers / team leaders and maybe an admin worker.

    When we won a new contract we used hotels widely. An open event in the morning, with service users and family members, question and answer sessions- followed by 5-6 hours of individual interviews. We also used hotels regularly for staff training.

    You're making assumptions about what work consists of and what sort of accommodation a business will have.

    Fair enough, I will amend my statement. If you are asked to attend an interview in a hotel, and it isn't part of a much larger event with hours of events prior to your interview and dozens or hundreds of service users and family members milling about, it is a screaming red flag.

    If you're already employed and have been paid on time and not asked to fork out £160, quite obviously there isn't anything suspicious about your employer sending you to a hotel for training.

    My perfectly reasonable assumption is that if the employer doesn't have a workplace to interview you in, then there's no workplace for you to have a job in either.

    There is no risk of anyone reading this post and thinking "wow, this extremely large and expensive event with hundreds of people milling around must be a scam to take £180 off me" or "wow, I thought I was being recruited to be CEO of a multinational company but it must be a scam to take £180 off me" so there is no reason to get bogged down in the exceptions.

    can someone please VERIFY this is DEFINITELY 100% a scam?

    i got a call today from their head of HR reading me my contract terms and if i accept or not, so i could meet up for the signing? so i said ill think about it and call him tomorrow to confirm!

    should i call tomorrow and say id like to pay the 180£ ISO programme training fee when i start?

    also someone pls verify if the £180 was for the ISO9001 programme certification? if that matches for the Admin/office assistant position that means they are a scam and im going to the police..

    he also said i can pay the 180£ to the company that deals with the ISO directly, it is actually 320£ but paying them results in a discount, then show them the receipt; then ill get hired!

    so why is it wrong for someone to be asking for a training fee before we start work?


    this is the first time this @£!!! i!!!@£$% is happening and i dont know what to do

    how many times do you need to be told - it is a scam - not matter who you pay the £180 to you, you will never see the money again!!!

    So keep your money in your pocket!

    Did you charge £180 for training or phones?...........if not then they are not the same are they?
