Job Scam ECM Team 5 Ltd

A young family friend went for an interview at ECM Team 5 Ltd, details are a bit sketchy but he was rapidly offered a job with a starting date of today. He had to pay a fee of £120 (cash) for training. (which at the time seemed odd to pay for his training, but he was told he would be returned daily once he started work). He received a contract and a date to start employment some 6 weeks after the interview.. Today he duly turned up at the address to find the firm was not known and when he returned to the offices when he had his "interview" it became apparent that this was a scam. I feel heartbroken for him. I know we can report to Action Fraud but is there any other thing we can do? I suspect a vast numbers of interviews were conducted with each interviewee paying £120 I checked with companies house and it is registered with a registration date of November 2017. However the website rings massive alarm bells, no contact number etc etc. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but this has knocked him for six.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

How did he hear about the job? Try and close that loophole.0

My wife has also been the victim of this scam and has already handed over £180 for supposed training and after signing now what looks to be a fake contract for an admin role has been told that position isn't available and offered another fictional role. She was also asked for a holding deposit for a company phone of £60 which she was told she would get back in 5 days after starting. Been chasing confirmation of where and when to start training and job for over a week past the contract start date. She has bern try to get work for over a year and a half so was sucker punched by the job over after applying and interviewing for many admin jobs. Don't get suckered in by this like she did.0

Never pay for training or materials, but we get desperate and hope for the best at times.0

And the costs are set low enough that many people would think it a risk worth taking, which is exactly what these scamming b***ards are banking on.0 -

Are there any business bodies my wife can report them to? Should she report it to the police to see if we can get these scammers caught?0

You can report it to the job boards, most of whom carry or certainly use to the message of not giving money to job applications - so perhaps it needs reinforcing or re adding again.
In future research into the company and a thought of I'll only part with my ID at the most being shown and not £ is the approach needed. Honestly once stopped me getting the train into London for a job in East Anglia as the advance research showed it was very likely to be scam.0 -
Report to Action Fraud.
If you have a phone number also look on who called me.co.uk.
Its an interesting site on scam calls and bogus tradesmen.0 -
For anyone interested, my partner had an interview tomorrow (April 9th) at 60 Cannon Street, 5th Floor, EC4N 6NP it appears they have rented an office for the day. We thought it seemed too good to be true with spelling mistakes, and poor spoken English so looked it up and came here. Thank you to anyone posting since you've saved us time and money in attending.
If you want to contact the police or attend in person they will be there interviewing, my OH's slot was at 1430 at the above address. They are a registered company # 11106080 (info here beta.companieshouse dot gov dot uk/company/11106080/filing-history
Seems like a fairly common scam, maybe police will attend tomorrow if you report it to the Met, though they will be unlikely to act unless they have a statement from someone who has suffered a loss (since others are reporting hearsay.)0
