Halifax account security question

Back again,
As a follow on to my earlier thread, one question I forgot to ask, and hoping someone reading this can help me with.
I’ve opened a Halifax reward account, debit card etc. being sent out.
To have free and full access to this account do I need to apply for further items i.e. a card reader as per Nat West and others, or a security code generator gizmo as per HSBC and First Direct.
Thanking you in advance for any replies.

Lorian,
super quick response, thank you!I am, therefore I think.0 -
If it's like BOS - and I assume it will be - they'll need one telephone number from you. Then, when you set up new payees they'll send an automated call to this number asking you to enter an on-screen one-off code. It's much simpler than those ridiculous card readers and other physical devices.0

I've had my account for a long time, so I don't know if it has changed for new accounts, but for on-line banking I just set up a password and a second security code and can log in with your username and those two security 'passwords' - no physical gizmos.
But as tenchy said, you need to have access to a phone if you set up a new payee as it rings you with a security code to enter before you can proceed with paying someone new.0 -

Ongoing these authentication can be done on the mobile phone app too if you prefer.0 -

If you have a smart phone just download the app.
It's a simplified form of online banking.
If you don't have a smart phone, carry on as usual!0 -
Hi Peaceful Waters,
Have a mobile, but it's never on!
(for emergency use only on PAYG, I put £10 on it over 10 years ago, just checked, still got £3.63 credit, how's that for money saving!)I am, therefore I think.0 -
I don't think you probably need to worry about using an app for your banking then, it doesn't sound like your phone is likely to be suitable.
I personally prefer to work on a computer too - for financial stuff - I'd be too worried about touching the wrong bit of the screen with my knuckle and parting with money unintentionally! :cool:0 -
It's worth providing them with your mobile number as they can ring a mobile or landline to authenticate internet banking payees and will text a confirmation if a new payee is set up etc.
It costs nothing to receive an incoming call or text so you will still keep your £3.63I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards.
