I hope that'll be the end of the situation for you both. Either way, hopefully it is letting you do a complete review of your life goals and may open new opportunities in the near future.0 -
Letters handed out, his quarry will close in a few weeks so we are 99% sure he will be going. Jobs are hard to come by but dh has been offered a place with TA in Afghanistan in March, he said himself that would be a very last resort and redundancy cover, benefits and TA money should help us to scrap through. TA is excluded from benefits calculations which is good.
Today I have changed gas/elec tariff saving 22% a year plus more if we are better with our consumption, reduced Sky from £37.50 to £17.50, and spread out council tax over 12 months so will now be paying £81 a month instead of £108.
We are already on a good package for phone/broadband, we will drastically be reducing grocery budget and childcare will have to be cut especially over the summer.
Anything else I can do? Should have sorted some of these things out ages ago!:o0 -
Sorry to hear the (amlost) news about OHs job.
You definately have the right attitude though.
Does OH get a choice to go to Afganistan or not?
I have just spend far too long working through the overhaul your finances article, have you worked down it? I would really recommend it!
I saved/earned the most money from
calling sky,
adding adverts to my website,
selling books and cds,
changing isas to a higher paying account,
fiddling with current accounts to get freebies,
selling gold
I have also applied for lots of freebies.
Good luck with your savings!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Hi at the moment Afghan is personal choice but he could be asked to go on any operations after his training, but that's what he signed up for.
I've started through the overhaul your finances article so probably more to go, dh is going to go through his games to see what he can sell and whilst he's away this weekend I can have a look through the rest of the house which would be a good incentive to declutter!0 -
hi ev, just been catching up on your thread, and so sorry that things are a worry for you at the moment. good luck with the financial overhaul - if anyone can do it you can!

Oh Eva - that sounds really tough
Hope things work out for you. The photo of the kids is lovely, by the way, Tom will be 1 soon, won't he? How quick has that gone!

Hi, confirmation today that he is definitely losing his job in 2-4 months time. He is very down this evening and arguementative so just keeping out of his way as I totally understand his mood. He is already being proactive though and is going to apply for a Community Support Officer with the local Police, other than that it's still early days.
Thanks all for the messages, will hopefully be back soon with a new tide us over plan when we have further details.
SMF - yes Tom will be 1 in 3 weeks time! I really can't believe how quickly it's gone.

Best wishes to your OH, having been through it myself I can sympathise, presently my brother is also seeking work having been made redundant for the fourth time in his career. As you say, give OH space particularly once he is home as I know that is a big hit in terms of routine. If amongst the job hunting etc he can find time to spend on a (cheap) hobby which perhaps work has curtailed somewhat that may be a positive thing to focus time upon so he remains active. As you say, you've a range of options so I hope things do come good for you soon.0 -
Oh Eva that is sooooooo !!!!!!:o I hope that things turn out for the best, as they quite often do, good luck
Come and have a moan whenever you need to and we will give you lots of virtual hugs
Best Wishes
