I didn't think it was a depressing post, just realistic. I think its a good idea to keep the mortgage payments the same :) that way you're still overpaying and your budget shouldn't change.

Keep up the good work evab

You're going through a tough patch presently, so best wishes on this improving soon. I think you are wise to stay with OH's redundancy cover provider because if you move there is usually a qualifying period before they'll pay out. I guess the increased premium is not helping you though?

Maybe you should put the £100 OP aside each month just for say, three months whilst you get things back on an even keel. Then you can drop them into the mortgage if you haven't called upon them?

Hope you can find a few things to make you smile with the kids.

Hope you are enjoying the weekend E. Hang in there a few months and things will be picking up :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    I'm still here... just!

Things are not great but I need to sit down again and sort out the budget for the umpteenth time.

    Some positives are:
    * DH finally get paid from TA - but is dependant on how often he goes, he starts basic training in a couple of weeks so that should boost the funds
    * Loan has finished so £101.79 better off a month
    * Mortagage will go down by approx £100 from July

    Some neutrals are:
    * DD will finish playgroup in a few weeks time so from September will be £35 saved (will be at childminders over the summer)
    * Mystery shops are available but I'm currently showing a new member of staff around for a few weeks so I can't fit in the shops when I'm meant to be working :D
    * I can reduce Sky package but not until after the Ashes which is DH big pleasure - torture to me!

    Some negatives are:
    * DH and I are on a weeks hols and have spent a bit of money on the credit card, very naughty but this is the first break we've had together for ages! I will pay it back asap.
    * Child care is costing a bomb, need to look at any other ways I can reduce the amount. Is difficult when we both work full time.
    * I'm still not sure if our income is more than our outgoings so need to do the aforementioned budget and look at more ways to reduce, especially grocery budget. One thing coming off this soon is Toms milk powder which is £7.21 a tin:eek:, as he doesn't really need it now.

I really want to keep overpaying the mortgage as although it's tight for us now, it will be more beneficial when we remortgage next year. We also want to have our first family holiday next year, I've saved about £400 in Mr T vouchers but obviously need a lot more as we want to go to Cyprus.

We also need to sort out our veg patch as obviously this will help with the grocery budget, I'm looking for things to sell on Amazon and Ebay too.

I'll update when I have some nice news :o

Keep on working at the things you can address and try not to be too worried by things outside your sphere of influence.
