Great progress brizzle you seem really determined. The food shop is really good. Definitely helps when everyone is on board and there is a shared plan.

Thanks jwil. How's it going with you?

Hi XS - this time round its been using YNAB for everything and cutting back on additional spends, particularly around groceries. We are using mainly whats in the larder, freezer etc and using up all leftovers. Pretty much what we do anyway in terms of cooking from fresh but really pushing hard on it now.

We are also paying across large sums to the CC debts immediately we get paid, which focusses the mind. What else? We have sold stuff on the Bay, hosted a student for a week and both OH and I are working more hours for more pay. So a lot is increasing income and then making paying off debt an absolute priority even if it means I now have less than three figures in the bank account for the next 11 days. But we will cope, we have done since January and the 'hard route' seems to be breaking our habit of spending better than if we had a cushion. Oh well...you live and hopefully (finally) learn

    xx

Cutting our food bill has really helped us this last couple of months but a couple of hundred pounds extra to the money we borrowed of PIL for the roof repairs. We had less income coming in this month due to a mix up with my tax code (thanks work) but I paid the sum I had planned back to PIL anyway and we have managed OK so far. Maybe this is what I need to do going forward, pay enough over at the beginning of the month to make it a bit squeaky and just manage on what's left. Food for thought.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

This is what we (I - OH just leaves me to it) do - savings and CC repayments all go out within a couple of days of payday and we are then squeaky for the rest of the time (permanent self-imposed skint-ness) Sometimes I have to squeeze a little extra back from instant access savings (eg: this month we had some unexpected bills and repairs), but you can bet I spend less this way than if I left myself a larger float in my current account.

Sometimes I get tired of it - but have to remind myself that at least I choose to do this (feel skint) nowadays - there have been times in the past when we have been 'properly' skint and without savings. I'd much rather it be my choice than not! :)
