Thanks SSG.. how's things? I seem to be having a lot to do in RL, but less travel this week which is a real joy. Have also done 3 exercise classes this week which makes a change. When I am travelling it makes it so much harder and working out at home is always MUCH shorter and I never push myself as much. I occasionally do some press ups on a hotel floor (haha) but never for long (or very often!!)
In DF news it feels like its the long hard slog now. Getting a tad boring if I am honest. But we will get there and OH is as focussed as ever although I think a little weary of it as well. Its certainly not a linear path which he struggles with, he can only see the now, not the positive cash flow which is coming along. Which is a benefit in many ways as thats how YNAB works and helps change habits but on an emotional level it can be exhausting when its not going our way. We have a few upsides coming in soon to the account so that should help. Some FL work etc and we should be paid by our lodger by the end of the week too. When he can see it and allocate it to the budget am sure he will feel less anxious.
Hope everyone has a good day and its not too cold where you are

I can sympathise with the getting a tad boring, feels like a slog at times here too.Take all the small wins though and know it’ll be worth it in the long run.I’ve joined YN AB. Looking forward to being paid this week so I can allocate funds.3

I found the worst time when debt busting was mid-month till the next pay day. It was always quite exciting when paid as I would update my snowball calculator and YNAB categories. Then there would be the mid - month lull when there would be nothing really positive to update and I was just carrying out the hard slog of making sure I didn't overspend on the budget categories! You've both just paid off a big frog in grand style. I have been known to change payment dates so that there are still bits to tidy throughout the 'deadzone" of mid month to the end of the month when more money arrives, but I agree, it is that drossy part of almost complete inactivitySave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!

Another YNAB member!! Thats fab. Its fairly obsessive here. OH updates a minimum of twice a day..including re-budgeting so its never red....
Thanks. Yes small victories will get us there...going for a run soon. It may rain but sod it. I need to get moving. Did a class yesterday and it felt good.4 -

I am working away less which helps minimise spends (coffee and snacks are my weakness) and the weekend was fairly quiet even though we got away for a couple of nights in our camper. All makes a difference. Hoping that CC2 goes in April despite having to pay for DD1's next accommodation instalment. Also need to book the tunnel for our summer holiday. Dont want to leave it too late otherwise availability is pants but also the price goes up.6 -
All sounds good, brizzle
I'm guessing that your paying the semester's accom costs out of monthly cashflow in one lump? If so, maybe when CC2 has gone you could do a monthly amount to a separate account going forward. We do this on a year-round basis (so take the accom costs and divide by 9 but pay in for 12 months) so there's excess in there in case some uni-related disaster happens - their phone/ laptop needs replacing, they need an injection of funds for whatever reason. We have quite a nice 'surplus' in ours at the mo of around £4k which we're not expecting to use this academic year (having taken into account post Easter accom costs)- but if DS1 stays on for an extra post grad degree he won't be eligible for as much finance, so we'd need to top up a very large amount.. (sob)... so it's staying put at the mo.... sighI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £203 -
Aah thanks greent, that’s a good call. I will definitely do that for next year. This is the last uni accommodation payment and then she’ll be moving off campus. I think a regular monthly amount in separate account makes sense. I’ll do that when the pesky CC2 is gone. I have some money in a S&S ISA but won’t be liquidating that whilst the market is so low. I’ll sit tight for a bit and hope it starts to correct back again. Selling funds now will, just crystallise the losses.
Low key weekend which was much needed after a few crazy weeks. OH is working flat out so he’s very tired which is a bit worrying. Not sure it will get much better anytime soon. Did watch the rugby which was good. Today planning to go for a run and then to the cinema with the kids. Looking at YNAB we realise we can afford a film or a meal but not both but we will do Knock Off Na*dos before we go. Am quite proud of ourselves for doing this, usually I would say s*d it, but this time the art of compromise is well and truly being used.Hope everyone is well. Best get a move on. It’s sunny intervals here so need to make the most of it.
Love to all

Brizzle, just popping in to say you may want to have a word with your DD about when her first instalment is due for the new place. My ds in yr2 paid in September so it was a bit of a shock to have to find a chunk of money in July for his 3rd year. Upside is that I should get it back in April when he gets his final maintenance loan payment.4
