I wouldn't go as far as that. If the OP is only interested in up to 32" then there's nothing wrong in getting a good HD Ready TV at that size.

The two I'd recommend for under £300 currently are

    and

Thanks Neil for dropping into this log thread, just to sort us a new tv out. I'm reading every post out to my wife and will continue to for the rest of the day. Not going out now till tomorrow and it's still slippery and she is disabled and I'm more than doddery. Plus it will be less cold tomorrow.

Will look at you link in a min, but 1 metre will be adequate as the power sockets are behind tv cabinet etc. Without getting up to look, if the proposed new HDMI lead goes in Port 8, will there be an obvious destination for the other end on tv?.

Yes, I am far from technically minded. My first laptop was bought, with the aid of a fellow forum chap who guided me through.

Yes,HDMI's are easily seen and the same each end.

Heres an example of a Samsung rear panel. All ports clearly labeled.

What an improvement. I colour coded each end of my leads to the place where they should be, so when we moved, we remembered. Having forty winks now, but will photo later. We are 99% sure we will go for the Samsung from currys and select the 1 metre HDMI from there, tomorrow. If tv plays up tonight, I. Will surf and wife can kindle.

Ps, Curtis being who they are, are bound to promote some deal, insurance etc, I never like to say yes.

Any 1m HDMI cable will do you, don't forget that the Asda also sell them if you have a local one. If you do go in and you see the Polaroid TV's just ignore them, they've got a shocking reputation for longevity (or lack of).

Just say no to any offers from Curries re. extended warranties.

Edit: the Richer Sounds Samsung I linked earlier has already gone...

Wow, we do have an asda/wilkinson/morrisons/tesco/sainsburys but for 3.49. id wear shoe leather out trailing about i would have thought. Each of these stores, used to stock a large range of tv's, but noticed very few now.

ps, wilko, 2.25 and of course, poundland but wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

Pound store hdmi cable are often recommended as being as good as any sold in Comet, Currys and the like at 10x or 20x the price.

AVForums experts can't all be wrong

Mind you @ £3.50 I'd probably think the time lost queuing to pay was worth paying that small extra.

BUT Do check the box your Humax Foxsat-HDR came in - they usually supplied both hdmi and scart cables if I recall correctly... Or any box of 'bits'. Back then they also supplied a paper manual in a plastic bag, so it may be with that?

EDIT: Just checked my manual and yes they supplied both in the box, plus an RCA red/black/yellow cable as well!

The tv is bought and home, as is the HDMI cable. Had to leave store without tv as they needed to know details on the Humax freesat Recorder box to ensure compatibility. Hopefully a neighbour will come and set it up for us.
