Coincidently, our nearest Richer is Bournemouth, we are Weymouth. Also, the link I gave, the same model in Argos is £50 dearer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi there custardy. Appreciate and hear what you say, I have two further comments.
1) when we moved here, there was a sky dish, we replaced it and its used for our Panasonic Viera 23" and we have Freesat, even though I seem to remember there is freeview on this television, so don't know how this works. We also have a Freesat Humax Fox-sat HDR box.
2)We tend to sit quite close to the TV and unsure if we could cope with anything much bigger than 32". We now know we should be looking at Full HD and a quick google brought up this, what is your take on this model please?

I thought the 23" was a typo and you meant 32"
It looks like around £220-£230 for a 32" full HD TV with a good screen (ignore the Smart tags)
From your local Currys:

Or from Richer Sounds, the same model you list (very highly rated company):

Since you use the Humax for receiving all TV signals the TV is being used purely as a dumb screen so you just need to connect the two with an HDMI cable. If you use a Scart cable for your old TV then don't forget to pick up an HDMI cable at the same time. Your Humax does have an HDMI output I'm presuming.0 -

Colin, we've looked at the Curry's link and like what we see. I note they have them in stock and on display. We're now wondering if we will go and look at it after dinner. Our neighbour told us yesterday he would collect it for us if we buy from there. Didn't look to see if they have a delivery charge. Need to get my head round the cable thing before going. Just taken photo, will send it in min.

Port 8 (HDMI) is the one you'll be using as port 6 (Scart) isn't usually supported on modern TV's. I've not actually checked the inputs on the two TV's I linked so do check. BTW even if they support both Scart & HDMI always go for the HDMI connection. It is far superior in all respects.0 -

I would have done, but given your words of advice, where would you use? given that we only have Argos & B&Q in town and we don't drive. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

in that case not much choice. However if you buy in Currys only buy the cheapest they do. See here

check the length you need and if your local has stock. Unlikely you need more than 1metre,so £3.99 to £5.990 -

Will look at you link in a min, but 1 metre will be adequate as the power sockets are behind tv cabinet etc. Without getting up to look, if the proposed new HDMI lead goes in Port 8, will there be an obvious destination for the other end on tv?.
Yes, I am far from technically minded. My first laptop was bought, with the aid of a fellow forum chap who guided me through. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Buy a Full HD (not much more expensive) which has a HD tuner and receive HD on the channels which broadcast them
the TV doesnt record anything but shows whats on the Humax box either recoreded or live
a Hd ready Tv will show HD from the HD box
why not get a smart TV so have the internet on the TV as well?
Youtube, Netflix etc?
.
The two I'd recommend for under £300 currently are

and
