We've tried cables out/ in and as per post 14, but tonight the picture has gone so many times, we've given up. Now thinking of replacing this 23" Panasonic Viera.
Trouble is, adverts stating smart on most of them. But we don't want smart, having briefly read up on them.
We want up to 32", we have Freesat and use a Humax Recorder. Ideally it will be plug and play (and record).. why do we see HD Ready and what is this?. Manufacturer isn't important. Would anyone care to recommend.
Ps, when we set about recording a program, often there is a choice to record in SD or HD so if a tv is advertised HD ready, does that mean it is capable of recording from the advertised HD version of a program?.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. do not buy a HD ready Tv.
Buy a Full HD (not much more expensive) which has a HD tuner and receive HD on the channels which broadcast them
the TV doesnt record anything but shows whats on the Humax box either recoreded or live
a Hd ready Tv will show HD from the HD box
why not get a smart TV so have the internet on the TV as well?
Youtube, Netflix etc?

Although I use the internet, my wife doesn't, and being nearly 80 I / we need someone simple. We now have established it must be Full HD,at least that's a start. So when I go into store, I will say, need new tv that is full HD and only settle for that, ok ? Netflix and you tube are not something we need, just soaps and light entertainment..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Ok
Bye the way are you stuck on 32"? , seems very small for a main TV and it will probably not matter at this small size whether its HD or not

That made me laugh. Currently 23" and has been all these years. Thought we would increase a little. Have to say, neither of us enjoy larger screens. forget smart. if you dont use the features then so be it.
It will still function as a basic TV.
Look at larger sizes vs price. due to them being more poluar you can often get a deal.
maybe open your search to the likes of up to 40". Also bear in mind that as technology advances then TV frames get smaller.
our old 37" wasnt much smaller than the 50" that replaced it. The 55" that replaced that takes up no more space than the previous 50" did.0 -
Hi there custardy. Appreciate and hear what you say, I have two further comments.
1) when we moved here, there was a sky dish, we replaced it and its used for our Panasonic Viera 23" and we have Freesat, even though I seem to remember there is freeview on this television, so don't know how this works. We also have a Freesat Humax Fox-sat HDR box.
2)We tend to sit quite close to the TV and unsure if we could cope with anything much bigger than 32". We now know we should be looking at Full HD and a quick google brought up this, what is your take on this model please?

Seems okay but as you are aware from your sound bar thread, mention of poor sound.
One review memntions vibration through the case. We had this with an old LG,very annoying.
If you have a local Richer sounds they have some in stock with a 6 year guarantee.
one review mentionsBought this compact model for an elderly relative. Very simple to set up and easy to use the remote
So likely good for a nice simple TV set up.
Note good connection options if you go sound bar.0 -

I don't have a sound bar thread, in fact unsure what they are. What I do have is a hearing problem and use a hearing aid for tv so I don't disturb the neighbours. Will look at Richer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

sorry, must be mixing you up with another poster.
A sound bar vis a fancy name for expernal TV speakers in a bar shape.
Eg https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/soundbars/roth-sub-zero-il.html
basically these thin TVs dont allow for decent speakers to be fitted (well in cost)0
