    Morning All,

Our target for this year is to decrease the debt and not increase it! Not going to set any big targets yet as we have a few 'disputes' hanging over our heads and if we loose we will have more to pay off. On the plus side have been accepted for Mint and balance transferred two cc. DH also accepted so transferring 1 other cc and part of the 4th to 0%, should help bring the debt down a bit.

Off now to check all click through's and survey sites to make that little bit extra!!!:D

Happy new year to you all x

  • Mine was to try to clear my credit cards (£5300) leaving just my car loan which finishes in just over two years and a loan to my dad as he paid off Cahoot for me. I have been doing really well so far £1800 paid off since Sept) but I am worried I will become a bit unstuck this year, I have worked my backside off with overtime/second job but have earned more than my estimated salary given to tax credits. I think it will tip me over the threshhold and I worry I will have to pay them back a few hundred pound/they suspend all payments from April.

Also DS could leave school this year, he may have job lined up. If not he will do 6th form. If he leaves I will lose maintenance/child benefit plus tax credits if still getting them. It is really going to knock my budget about and I worry I will only earn enough to live and not be able to pay extra off debts.

Feeling a bit down today about it all after being so positive for the last few months.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time
  • Allow yourself a down day but 1) dont go spending! and 2) think how far you have come. As long as its going down then you are making progress.

I keep fretting about the future but Im going to focus on 1-2 months at a time.

  • Thanks Wendy24g, yes no point wittering about the future. Each year I have increased my debt by a few thousand so to have been paying it off is positive.

For the last few years I have got myself in a state over finances and couldn't see how I would cope but each time I have overcome it and somehow pulled through and managed to keep up with payments.

If the worst comes to the worst I could get a bar job two evenings a week, that would make up the defecit and there are things I could cut back on such as get rid of Sky completely and don't pay British Gas heating maintenance plan (better to keep the house with no heating than be warm but get repossessed!).

I do this sometimes, full of hope one minute then sink again into a panic. Thanks for your support though everyone. :j

  • Im hoping this year will be the first my debt decreases. I dont have much confidence in myself but one step at a time. It was almost £19k at its highest in August ish so must try to keep positive.

  • That is really postive Wendy, being on this forum helps so much too. We'll support each other through the wittering stages, one month at a time, like you say! I get so excited when I have entered my figures each month into the snowball and can then change my signature on here!

  • Wendy 24g you are so right and positive - I needed that today as feeling really down - our debt has decreased but the last couple of months seem to have been quite bad. I also hate my job which doesn't help but there is not much around at the moment so will have to grin and bear it.

How do you all manage when friends are going out a lot - what do you say to them? We sometimes find ourselves telling little white lies. :embarasse
  • Thanks debt4evernot.

I know what you mean about the job. Mine pays well, get a car but its tough and I dont feel up to it especially with everything else life chucks at us! I will keep trying though it could be worse. Ill give it another year and then decide if I need to move on.

I dont have to worry too much about friends thankfully. I dont have a great social circle mostly through work and they dont have kids so dont socialise out of work much. Usually in the past though I would just spend and forget about it.

Do what you feel is right just keep to the budget as much as possible. Tell your friends if you feel you can but whats a white lie or two if you cant?

Someone else will hopefully come and let you know how they handle it soon.

PS Great news about your debt still decreasing

Heffi1 I was reading your thread and thinking of this one but looks like you found it.

Hi Wendy - thanks I have just got around to finding it again.

Morning everyone hope the day is good where you are and very glad the snow has now gone. I go back to work tomorrow so I will be spending a lot of today making sure I have things ready, also need to do some shorthand practice as my course is on again on Tuesday and I have not practised all over the Holidays. :o

    Have a good day.

    Heather.

My target for this year is to pay 15k off my debts leaving me sub 30k by the end of the year. It means clearing 1250.00 per month off my debt - I pay out 1000 a month anyway so its finding an extra £8 odd a day which doesnt sound so bad! x
