Hi all, I'm after some advice...

I've been struggling to keep my head above water with repaying my debts (a loan and some credit/store cards) due to hikes in my costs of living and no increase in my wage to match (I'm sure like pretty much everyone else!)

Because of this I've been making the minimum payments and was looking at trying to get my monthly loan repayments slightly reduced to give me some breathing space. The loan is just over £380 to repay each month and I'm on year 2 of 5 having made the regular payment every month since it started.

I called NatWest to ask if I could reduce it to £300 a month but they said I'd need to take out a whole new loan (which means being credit checked etc.) For them to change the repayment. I wouldn't pass the credit check now as have missed a few payments to the credit cards over the past year.

Is this normal that they would make you take another loan out etc and essentially start again with a new loan just to reduce the monthly payments? I'm being honest with them and asking for help as I'm struggling which is I thought what they'd prefer me to do so I don't miss their payments and before I get into a bigger hole I wouldnt be able to cope with but this doesn't feel right.

If it is normal then I'll just have to duck it up, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Andrar it might be best to post your question as a new thread on main board so that people can advise, it might be useful to also post a statement of affairs and see if people can see savings etc.

Hi Danielle and welcome, you will soon get used to the snowball effect and you might be able to bring that date forward :-) x
